I know someone who purchased a Greyhound bus ticket, for $130 (one way, they were moving). Somehow the ticket was accidentally thrown in the trash during the packing for the move. They called Greyhound to see about getting a replacement ticket. They wouldn't do it.
His name was on the manifest, they knew he had purchased the ticket, but would not issue him another one. He had to purchase another ticket, for another $130. ![]() I have flown several times, various airlines, no paper ticket needed. Walk up to the counter, tell them your name, show your driver's license and they issue your boarding pass. No paper ticket to worry about, or lose, and be forced to purchase another one. Why can't/won't Greyhound do the same thing? Completely ridiculous not to. I would never use Greyhound's service, after hearing about how they treat their customers. So, does anyone here work for Greyhound? Can you explain the reasoning for having paper tickets to begin with, and refusing to issue another one if it is lost?

Greyhound isn't liable for lost or stolen tickets--meaning they do not have to issue refunds for it. Period. It is their company policy. Perhaps boycotting them will help change their policy in the future, but I'm sure at some point in the purchase, the person would have acknowledged the terms and conditons of the contract of that ticket. I'm sorry for your friend. But what other companies do is irrelevant to Greyhound's policy today. |

In the days before e-tickets, airlines did have lost ticket policies. You'd have to buy a new ticket, but if the lost ticket was never used then after three months or so, they'd issue a refund for the original lost ticket, minus a lost ticket fee ($50 to $100 if remember correctly). So you were still out the money for the 2nd ticket, but only until the 3 month mark had passed, and then you were just out the fee.
You'd think greyhound would have a similar thing, but I guess not. Also, I'd only book people I hate on greyhound. My MIL had to take them once (Amtrak was sold out) and said the trip was horible. She said she wouldn't take them again if her life depended on it.

I took Greyhound once from Maine to Washington. It was an interesting experience to say the least. Never again, and there's no way I'd let DD do that in HS alone like I did.

I used to ride Trailways to see my grandmother each summer when I was a teen. Does anyone remember them? Then Greyhound took over and I don't think that I'd use them any more.

For most routes, Greyhound (or one of their affilates) is the only game in town. The lack of competition allows them to get away with lousy service.

Greyhound is awful. Have you seen some of the buses? It looks like they were in a war at the front.
