Peak Rates

Could someone explain why Feb 15- March 27 is considered Peak by hotel standards? I get the holiday times and summer- but to me Feb - March isn't any different than Oct -Nov weatherwise and the fall is considered Value.

It's not about weather; it's about when Disney has historically had the most visitors (due to school breaks and the like). That, presumably, is why that time is "peak" season.

That covers President's Day and spring break. In Disney terms, spring break pricing covers February - March, possibly into April - depending on the year and how Easter falls.

And February-March is HUGELY different weather-wise than October, a little less than November.

And throw in a few cheerleading competitions and you've got high demand and high rates.

OK- we don't have a winter break here in NJ, just Christmas and the week after Easter. (we even only get the Monday of Presidents off not the entire week)

To me it seemed like an odd time for that many people to pull kids out of school. But if there are events, then that is understandable.

Many of the school systems in southern Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama also have several days off during Mardi Gras week - we've been to WDW that week and the number of folks from New Orleans was remarkable.

Mardi Gras is on Feb 16 in 2010 and Peak season starts that day - coincidence?

There are towns in NJ that get a winter break. My kids never had one but my sister lives 2 towns away and her kids always have a winter break in February.

Disney also draws tons of visitors from Japan, India, etc. during that time.

In the fall, kids are in school. No breaks if school has just started. There's also hurricane season, which technically extends until November 30, although it peaks mid-August to mid-October.
