which hotel?

Hi there, we are planning a trip to DLP at end of Jan. Normally we stay at DLH but funds are tight this year and my parents have given us £500 to put towards it. Now I am trying to decide between staying at the NBC and Cheyenne. NBC is £168 more for a 4 night stay. Can I get as many people as possible to give me their opinion on which hotel they prefer and why? TIA

I'd say Cheyenne - mostly because the NBC is a huge hotel, and they often have conferences etc there. I personally think the Cheyenne is more suited to Disney park-goers than the NBC.

But, the NBC rooms are slightly bigger than the Cheyenne, and strictly speaking, closer to the parks. However, in reality you might find you're walking for 5-10 minutes more once you reach the entrance to the NBC, before you get to your room. You don't need to go anywhere near the reception block to reach your room at the Cheyenne, so you could find it takes the same amount of time, or even less, to walk back to your room at the Cheyenne at the end of your park day.

Hi. We have stayed at the Newport Bay once & twice subsequently at the Cheyenne. We loved Our stays at both equally so if You want abit more spending money the Cheyenne is a great choice.
Have a great time.
Dawn.

Thanks guys for your input. Is Cheyenne really as nice? We stayed in Newport years ago and thought it was really nice...I just didn't think Cheyenne would have been as plush. Also, more choice with the evening meals with free dining with the Newport. Now you realise I am just playing devils advocate here, would love someone to convince me to stay at Cheyenne as it is just that bit cheaper however if there is a difference in quality of hotel I would pay the extra £168.

Ok with the NPB your all situated inside one hotel, the Cheyenne your given a block. But i think that adds to the whole Cheyenne and the Wild West theme.

The rooms are slighty smaller but i have always found them to be really cosy.

I stayed in the NPB and it took me 10mins to walk to my room from reception, would take that long to walk from the parks to the Cheyenne.

I've stayed in both and I preferred the Cheyenne. While the public areas at the Newport Bay Club are really nice (e.g. the sweeping staircase), it felt a little soulless to me. The Cheyenne has a great atmosphere and yes, the rooms are smaller, but they're very well-appointed and fantastically themed.

I don't have children but i would say NBH simply for the location. It will be freezing in January and the closer the better, i also really love the NBH and it does have more facilities and slightly better breakfast.

I'd split the difference and get a Montana room at Sequoia Lodge. Great theming, especially in January with the log fires and so on, nearer to the park that NPB AND Cheyenne (as the Montana rooms are in the main block and therefore you walk out of the building straight next to the lake, three minutes to Cafe Mickey. And the rooms are very nice, as is the bar.

Are you going with children?

I have stayed at both and liked them both as well. The rooms in the Cheyenne have a double and bunkbeds which was why we chose to go there for that trip as we had our son with us as well as our DD. The theming was brilliant and the rooms were spacious enough. There was no air conditioning in the room but that didnt matter in March when we went and wont for you either I would imagine.
The rooms are in blocks so you will have to go outside to go to the reception/restaurant/bar/shp etc

We stayed this summer in NPB but had an Admirals floor room when they were doing the special deal of hot breakfast and afternoon drinks and cakes. It was lovely having that but the room was central as it was admirals floor. As already mentioned the hotel is very large and very spread out so you could have a distance to walk to and from your room. The rooms normally have 2 double beds but we asked for one with bunk beds as we had added our son on as a last minute booking and were lucky enough to get one as there are only a few.

Much as I like the Cheyenne, Newport Bay is in a different league.
Our first 2 stays were at Cheyenne followed by Santa Fe, enjoyed both, then was totally spoilt on the Admiral's floor at NPB and after that 2 visits to Sequoia Lodge.
Now I haven't experienced the luxury of the DLH but I did notice a difference in little things by going back from the moderate hotels to a value hotel, I am assuming that these differences are going to be even more apparent to you. They really are small things like having to find/fight for your own breakfast table, not being able to have yoghurt, because I refuse to have it from the communal help yourself pot, tinned fruit cocktail at breakfast and no hot selection, you can have it at an extra cost at NPB.
Then there's the shuttle buses although to be fair we did walk most of the time during our last stay at Cheyenne, but the weather was fabulous I don't know whether I'd want to do it in January, part of the reason we chose HNY in Jan. is because of it's close proximity to the park and because I'm expecting it to be extremely cold.
Are you looking to book the free dining or 30% off offer ? If it's the free dining then you'll have a greater choice of restaurants with the HB+ vouchers at NPB.
and have you discounted Sequoia Lodge, I really am not fussed on SL at all, it's too brown for a start, the bird song and the pines don't work for me, I live in a rural area and I've got more than enough of them both in my own garden, but I would choose it over the Cheyenne in January, you'll have the same standard food, dining vouchers etc. as the NPB but it would be cheaper.

Hope some of this helps you come to a decision. Jill.

personally, if you can afford the newport bay, then I'd stay there - unless you have a specific need for the bunk beds at the Cheyenne.

My reasons are:

1) Everything is in one block at the Newport so no need to go outside.
2) Much closer to the parks and village
3) Much better choice on free dining - you could spend nearly £168 at restaurants not covered at the Cheyenne
4) The breakfast at the Newport is better
5) The newport has a swimming pool

Thanks so much guys. I think we are leaning towards NPB. As someone mentioned I think it will be less of a shock having stayed at the DLH for the past several years. We have actually stayed at NPB and liked it so we know what to expect whereas the cheyenne is unknown to us. Also, as someone mentioned there is a much better choice with the free meals at NBC.
