NYE Dinner & Dessert Party - Disney has lost their minds!

Just got this week's All Ear's Newsletter, and in it are 3 NYE dining events:

1. Victoria & Albert's
2. Fantasy in the Sky Dessert Party
3. Dinner and Dessert Party **

The Dinner and Dessert Party sounds like a fancier Wishes Dessert Party with food, dessert and sparkling cider for the incredible price of...$139.99/adult and $69.99/children. WTH!!!

I guess Disney feels that breads, cheeses, pork, sushi and dessert are worth that much. We did the Wishes Party in July, and although the viewing was awesome, the desserts were gross (warm and soggy) as were the drinks. Not to mention it was stifling hot under there!

As with all things Disney, I'm sure this will sell out, but I was just stunned by the price of this event.

Do you all think it will be popular at that price? Tiger

Yes

Just the sheer number of people on property means Disney can charge what they want. SOMEONE will pay.

Right there with you. When I saw the price for Victoria and Albert's ($375) I my jaw dropped. I thought that it was per couple however, it certainly doesn't seem to be. My next thought...dinner for 2 would pay to luxury car payments. That is unbelievable

Although it is very high, I expected it from Victoria and Albert's. At least you are in a gourmet restaurant.

With the dessert party, you get the pleasure of being crammed underneath a cement structure that houses a CS restaurant for goodness sakes! Not to mention that it gets very hot, sticky and noisy in there.

I totally know that Disney can charge whatever they want as they have a captive audience, but I have to imagine that some day, it's going to catch up to them.

It's New Year's Eve. Everything is more expensive on New Year's Eve, whether you're in WDW or not. People are looking for a special experience for a special night. I predict it will quickly sell out.

We are going on the 30th for the regular price. The dessert party wasn't available on the 30th of December but must have opened up as I called to check something else and happened just to ask before hanging up and got the reservation.

Yes Disney has lost their minds. I've seen fireworks from that terrace before they started charging for it. It's a terrible place to watch fireworks from. The ceiling overhang blocks all the high fireworks. A big loss on nights with surround fireworks.

You're better off buying a bottle of champagne, a bunch of sweets & snacks from Capn Cooks and watching from the Poly beach IMHO.

I understand the "sticker shock" from everyone, however, you don't have to go to the event!! Disney hasn't "lost their mind" because they will make some money on this, but again, nobody is forced to pay the price. It is optional, there for anyone willing to pay the price. I happen to think that the money for the MVMCP is too much and I refuse to pay that much for us to spend an evening at MK (5 of us) but am happy for anyone who wishes to go to the party and pay the extra money. We are going to CG and enjoy a wonderful meal then watch the fireworks from the top floor of CR.

Well obviously, this is a given...but this is a discussion board in which we discuss different topics. Since I've been to the Wishes dessert party and had a hart time justifying that price for the location, food, etc., I honestly think it's a crazy price to ask.

The other thing is that it's not just a captive audience and let it be. Disney keeps upping costs for pretty much everything, yet service, locations, maintenance, etc. are sliding. It speaks to how they value their guests and the services that they are providing. IMHO, this one says that our guests are cash cows who'll pay pretty much any amount of money for anything we throw at them. It sets up a bad precedent and just keeps justifying to Disney that they can and should have this attitude with everything. Disney is expensive, no doubt about that, but so are many other events...you don't need to continually gauge your customers and do so under the pretense that you are just providing services for which guests will happily pay. There will always be those guests, but then you need to provide a stellar service for them and this surely isn't going to be it. I have no doubt that people will happily pay this price, but the value just can't be there for the location alone, food, etc.

Just discussing... Tiger

give me a break.
if you don't like it, don't do it.

they aren't gauging you. and my guess those who pay for it, majority will think it it well worth it.

You keep saying how prices increase, and how awful it is.
Reality check, look around at the economy today, prices are going up everywhere. Disney doesn't owe it to you to offer this for next to nothing. In fact if they did you'd probably be here compaining you couldn't get tickets because they were sold out.

Disney has all kinds of guests from all kinds of different budgets.
Not everything is geared to those of us staying at Pop or even the mod's.
There are some things in this world that you have to pay big bucks for to enjoy. Some you can afford, some you splurge for, some you just say, I can't justify, and some you say that's just beyond my budget to even think about.

It's called life and business.

Try going to a New Year's even dinner/event at a 5 star resturant in NY or LA and see what you would pay. Probably as much or more.

Just discussing.

$375 x 2 (minimum) + tax/tip = about $800 for 1 nights dinner..OR $800 = about 3 more nights stay at a mod, plus extra days on hopper tix for the whole family.

you figure out what I would choose

I am glad that Disney continually looks for ways to charge a premium for premium services to those who are willing to pay for luxury.

Like it or not, selling out events like this help to keep prices from increasing even faster.

Take it easy...A 5 star restaurant in NY or LA will be 5 star service and food - tell me how that even comes close to eating soggy desserts in a fast food location? Disney will try and make it seem like a 5 star experience as it's near the castle, but I highly doubt there will be anything 5 star about it.

I mentioned prices increasing because it speaks to what is happening in other areas of Disney as well. We've stayed at almost every resort, and eaten at every location on property as DVC members, so we have a bit of experience to draw from. This event seems so grossly overpriced based on the initial description. To some people, our DVC membership is grossly overpriced. It is interesting to discuss these types of things, if it wasn't, the DISboards would not be in existence.

I didn't mention other areas of life as it's not relevant to this discussion - staying on topic is pertinent in these kinds of discussions. What other restaurants or venues do in the community has no bearing on my comment that Disney with this particular event (I'm sure that Victoria and Albert's NYE dinner will be much more value laden - I wouldn't pay that much as we don't do anything on NYE, but at least it's gourmet food in a beautiful location) seems to be grossly overpriced.

I think you are missing my point - I specifically mentioned this event because of the food offerings and the location. BTDT with the Wishes Party, so I have direct experience with this location. You can only work with what you have, and that place doesn't have much to offer...

Honestly, I wish people would stop with the, "If you don't like it, don't..." comments. It's silly - if we didn't discuss stuff, there wouldn't be message boards in the first place.

Not looking for people to agree or disagree with me. I read the NYE event listings and this one just stunned me.
