How do you see the community board? *Inspired by another thread*

I was reading another thread and a poster commented about how unfriendly it (the CB) is and about kids posting here.

Do you view this place as more of an adult conversation area or a place for adults and kids to interact with.

I see it more geared for the adults. A place for us to gather and have conversations. I know there are a lot of SAHM and others who may not get the opportunity to have that kind of interaction on a daily basis.

I have found that the few teens that do come here seem very down to earth and grounded and know how to properly carry on conversations with adults.

Besides, I don't really see many *kids* around here anyways.

How do you see things here?

I personally wish they wouldn't let kids post here. I wish this was "adult only' board. It would be nice to post without having to worry what kids might read

I think some of the problem comes when kids/teens misrepresent themselves as adults.....

But I think when kids come "as kids" they are welcome. Although some of the board is a bit old for them and not always appropriate conversation for a child.

I see it as more adult. I think some find it hard to remember that this is a family friendly site (me included at times).

I think it's more adult oriented. Isn't there a teen board here too? I would think most teens would feel more comfortable chatting there, with people their own age or closer to it anyway.

I guess I've never really paid attention to see if there are any kids posting here. I've seen some "younger adults", but really don't pay that much attention to people's ages. I don't usually click on someone's profile to find that information out. If there are any kids/teens here, then in my eyes they are quite articulate and "fit in" just fine.

I don't know the rules of the board regarding children and I will stay regardless but I would feel a lot safer if it were just for adults.

I generally tend to think of the Community Board as 18+. The vast majority of posters here are adults and I think those who are younger generally fit in well and I have to say, I don't really notice. I'm sure some of the "kids" on here are more mature than some of the adults anyways... maturity doesn't always correlate with age!

I never really saw it as a seperate adult section. I'm 16 and I read and post a few times, but I haven't seen many threads that have been innapropriate for teenagers and if I have I usually just skip over them. I post on things that interest me, but usually skip the more controversial topics. I don't want adults to think we're invading their space though, I actually like talking to adults better in real life (besides my few friends from school) rather than the kids in my class. I find that they are too immature and here I find interesting topics that I wouldn't read about otherwise. I post on the teen board more often than I do here, but I still read here often.

I think of the CB as an adult area but I don't mind if teenagers want to read & post here.

I've always thought of the CB as over 18 but I doubt I'd notice if someone younger posted here.

I usually don't post anything controversial or even see much controversial here anymore so I've never really thought about it. I always figured the teens hung out on the teen board.

I see it as more adult, but I don't mind interacting with the teens. I also tend to cut them more slack if I know they are younger.

I see it as mostly adults interacting, although there have been some teens who are able to interact with adults here just fine. And some adults who can't .

Oh, and I've seen posters behave towards me and towards others way more rudely or coldly on DIS forums other than the CB. I don't get the whole "I'm afraid of the Community Board" idea . I might get bored with it, but not afraid. I think some people are at least as touchy, defensive, show-offy, exclusive, etc., on other forums as they are here.

I guess I think of it as over 18, but I've seen many posts from people who say they are teens who come off in writing as adults and fit right in.

I've definitely see posts from some who claim to be adults who appear to be very young and can't really converse as an adult.

I think of it as adult. I don't mind teens being on it. It's supposed to be mostly "G" (okay, maybe "PG") rated, right? As a teen, I don't think it would interest me but to each his own.
