TV's - do they still make the old kind?

My Mom has an old TV, probably 17 years or more. It's in a cabinet of it's own and she puts her clock on top of it.

I wanted to get my Mom a new TV for Christmas from me and my two sisters, but they don't think she will like the new style of TV. Her old one does not work right - everybody is orange and kind of blurry.

I don't want a huge TV, about 32 inches - which should be doable on black Friday. I just happened to think if they still made the other kind, we could get that instead.

Anybody see any old style TV's out there?

Honestly, no. But there are so many bargains now even before Black Friday...
By the way, she will love HD and if you do the flat screen and can swing it....going 1080 is much better/clearer that 780.....IMHO....Try Walmart, Costco. etc. What a great gift!
Good Luck and have a Blessed Holiday Season!

I'm fairly certain they don't make console TV's anymore. Heck, when we upgraded to a digital TV we had a hard time GIVING out old console TV away. It was working, but not perfectly. I have two ideas. Check with a TV repair shop. They might have some refurbished, working console sets. Or, buy a newer style digital TV along with a small entertainment center, or amoire where the TV fits into the opening. That way she gets the great picture quality and digital signals.

We gave our TV to Goodwill or Salvation Army. They might sell them in their stores??

Try at Salvation Army, Good Will, St. Vincent DePaul, etc. I'm sure they will have some old school televisions just like your mom would want. Or, buy a new one and a tv stand. Then, her tv will be slightly elevated and she can put her clock on top.

Both Target and Walmart discontinued their lines of "Tube TVs" earlier this year.

That said, if you have your heart set on one of these, you may have to go into the secondary market.

No, tube t.v.'s are not made anymore. I wanted an inexpensive, not-fancy t.v. for my dd's room. I knew I couldn't go with a flat screen because her older brother has the old fashion kind, and that would cause all sorts of issues. The only place I could find tube t.v.'s were on craigslist.

I'm in a similar situation. My brother really wants to get a t.v. as a joint gift for my father this year. My mom, however, is convinced he won't see the value in the flat t.v.'s. We're going to give it a try...hopefully he'll like it!

we just paid someone $125 to take away our old working perfectly 36 inch tv. It was a burden and we couldn't move it, so well worth the $$ to have removed. The new ones are so much lighter!

I recently saw a tube tv for sale at kmart. So I think you can still get them a few places. But you'd definetly get a better deal at a thift store.

New console/tube televisions are still available online from Best Buy, though they currently have only one model listed (27", $150).

OP - do you mean the kind with the wooden frame that look like a piece of furniture? If so I think they were discontinued years ago. Try Craigslist or a TV repair store you might find one there.

You can probably get her the flat screen and an armoire for the TV so she can put the clock on top. For that matter you can probably get the armoire for free so many people are buy the huge flat screens that when I went to sell my armoire I found out that even though I spent almost $1,000 on it at most it was worth $10 and only if it had drawers on the bottom instead of shelves because most people don't want them anymore.
