Not crazy about Vero
My DH and I must be the only ones that weren't crazy about the VB resort. We just came back from our first stay there for 3 days to celebrate our anniversary. Since we came back I have been reading some of the posts from others who have been there and absolutely loved it. I think we aren't good at just relaxing by sitting on the beach (there wasn't even much of a beach to enjoy) or sitting by the pool. We found ourselves driving over the DW even though we had just been there a few weeks before. We much preferred having something to do. The resort itself I thought looked like it was an older resort (not sure how old it actually is). I think we may be spoiled by staying at Beach Club. Are we alone in this or are there any others who were disappointed?

My DW and I went to Disney World last May right when school closed (We both work for the school system) We spent over a week at Disney World. We went to Vero for 2 days to unwind after all the Disney excitement, we loved it.
I grew up on the east coast In CT and love the beach. The beach at Vero is not white sand and clear blue water. Some people are thrown off by this and it is a very narrow beach. I understand why the OP didn't find the beach appealing. The beach is just like the one I grew up at in CT. The resort is older than BCV and a little well used but I found them to be comfortable and clean. The best part of Vero is the fact that you don't have anything to do but relax. I understand why some would not like it at Vero and understand the OP. As for us, We added a day to our first stay and didn't want to leave. BTW, the only thing that could make Vero as good as BCV would be if they opened a Cape May there. Although, they do have the best corned beef hash I have ever had, and the grits (and I live in the south and hate grits) are the best I have ever had anywhere.

We've never been to VB, but were worried about being bored there too. We went on an adults only trip last Sept when I was 6m pregnant. I was worried about walking around the parks when it was that hot as I suffer from pretty severe braxton hicks contractions when I'm pregnant. I initially booked three nights at VB for our big trip. Then I got to talking with dh that maybe we could book two at VB and one night at WDW. Then it became two at WDW and one at VB. Finally, we just decided that it would be more fun to walk around slowly at WDW than sit on a beach for three days. We're just not beach people either. We had a blast at WDW, and just took it slow.
I think our trip to HH this summer will be more fun with the kids. It seems like there is more to do there than at VB. Plus I think the kids will have fun on the big beach and the calmer ocean there. Sorry you didn't love VB. I think we'll still try it out one day, but likely only for 2-3 nights in combination with a WDW vacation.

We just went (in August) to VB for 3 nights after 7 nights at Disney at BCV and thought it was a nice way to unwind. We ARE beach people tho. We were there a day or two after Bill tho so the surf washed in a LOT of shells & seaweed. I was not a fan of having itty bitty bits of shells clinging to my entire body nor did I like that icky feel of the seaweed wrapped all over me. But that happens. Not that big of a deal tho - we just spent our fair share of time at the pool.
I thought the resort was VERY WELL maintained and did not think it looked "older" at all. We had an OVIR and it was perfect!! It was nice to relax & sleep in and take our time in the morning without worrying how long the line would be at Expedition Everest or whatever. That said, the entire region rolled up the carpet at 9:00 every nite which we found odd. We thought 3 or 4 nights was plenty. But that's why we started small, to see if it would be a week long type of destination for us or not. We would definitely go again though we are not apt to ever buy points there. It was just a nice extension of our week at Disney.

We really enjoy Vero, but I can understand why some may find it boring.
For us, just hanging by the pool or beach is a nice relaxing way to start vacation. Spending the afternoon over looking the ocean from the porch of the Green Cabin Room ain't bad either.. MG

Vero will grow on you
The first time we went we felt the same way. Something about the pitch black nights. However, it grew on us kind of in a haunting way. In 6 months see if u feel like going back. It was a strange appeal. Sitting in the green cabin room thinking of those ships. The ocean sound, the camp fire, crabs on the beaches and sun rises. It will call you

As my DH (Hazzard101) posted above, we went to VB for a few days after a long WDW trip. I'm not a beach person at all, but I fell in love with VB. It was so relaxing after a hectic WDW trip, and we did nothing but lay on the beach, play in the ocean, and hang out in the pool. We loved it so much, that we have another trip planned in May.

I have to agree with the OP. We did not find enough to do at VB. The nights were long and the kids were not happy sitting around - anywhere. We can play board games and watch movies at home so that didn't work. We did play volleyball in the evening, thanks to the lights that can be turned on as needed. The sand was not soft and the waves knocked us off our feet. We're HH people I guess. Lots to do and great nightlife.

We went when our kids were younger and they enjoyed it during the day (they had activities for the kids and the pool was fun). But we were bored at night. Now they are teens, they don't want to go back. They think it will be boring now. We can find enough to do at WDW without going to the parks, so we can just relax. I like to go one day, then relax one day at WDW. We probably won't be going back to VB again. But I am glad we went.

We find VB very relaxing after a trip to WDW. It seems to be the best way to end our vacation. We really like it. We like that it is slow pace and there isn't a lot to do. We don't need to rush anywhere, we don't need to wait long to be seated at dinner, we don't need to worry about lines etc...it is such a relaxing and stressfree place.
I am thinking that this will be how we end most WDW stays going forward. I think three nights there is best. |

3 nights at Vero was the perfect end to a vacation after 7 nights at WDW. I'm not one to just lay out on the beach, but I enjoy body surfing and other ocean activities. We rented a kayak and followed sea turtles for a while, it was pretty cool. I admit their didn't seem to be much to do outside the resort, but we did go to a minor league baseball game. I will do a trip to Vero Beach again.

Many go there as a way to wind down after a WDW trip. We went there this year instead of going to WDW and really enjoyed it, so much so that we are planning on going to Vero again this June. We love the resort. We were more just looking for a change of pace after 10 or so trips to WDW and during this economic slowdown it was nice not to have to purchase four park tickets!

We go to VB first then off to WDW. I enjoy just doing nothing for a few days. Then off to the parks for a week. We have been twice so far 2 nights then 3 nights the second time. Going for 5 nights again in may. Have found the rooms to be in pretty good shape the the buildings look great. The beach is a little small. OC Md. is where we went for vacation for years so its quite different from that but still a lot of fun. And DW and I can stay at the pool or the beach for hrs on end for many days at a time.

Our family just loves VB. We go for a full week most every year and next July will be spending two full weeks there. We never tire of the sun, the beach and the pool. I'll use the gym, play golf and read a good book. Check out a local museum, fish and enjoy the local wildlife (sea turtles, manatees, etc). Take in a movie or indulge in one of the many, many good seafood restaurants nearby. A nightcap at the Green Cabin Room isn't so bad either.
Yes, the area shuts down early......but so do I!!! We're basically up with the sun and out in the sun and water all day except for meal breaks. Then a nice dinner and we unwind with some games or a movie. Fast asleep by about 10 to get up early and do it again. Boring? For some maybe. I call it heaven. |
