Would you go during Thanksgiving week?

My children typically get the whole week off for Thanksgiving as our school combines all our days off into one whole week. We were talking about going to Disney next year, but the first week in December.

Now I am thinking to go Thanksgiving week. Would you go to Disney Thanksgiving week? How busy will it be? We could actually leave the Thursday before as my children wouldn't miss too much the Thursday and Friday (Thanksgiving Feast) before. I know it will be more expensive then the following week, but I was thinking since they were already off, why not.

TIA.

My husband's biggest thing is that he wants to see the Christmas decorations. Are any of the resorts decorated for Christmas before Thanksgiving?

We've been to Disney during Thanksgiving for the past 3 years (unfortunately not this year ) Yes, it can get a bit more crowded on that weekend but it's definitely manageable. With EMHs and FPs, we only really had to wait on long lines for a few rides.

And yes, some Christmas decorations are already up but not all. I still remember getting to Coronado Springs after midnight the night before Thanksgiving on our first trip and seeing the staff putting up all of the Christmas decorations.

We are going to DLR for Thanksgiving. We leave next Wed after work and begin the drive down. DLR/DCA are already decorated for Christmas, but we will also be back twice in Dec. We are definitely getting our use out of these APs! LOL

APs expired 1-3-2010, the girls are still good until 2-6-2010 but we have no plans for a visit before they expire. No plans for our next visit, it will be 2011 or 2012 before we head back. We've had fun DLR/DCA, we will miss you while we are gone. We took 14 trips from July 07-July 08 and around 16 from Jan 09-Jan 10.

We leave on Sunday so I'll let you know when we return. We have never been during this week and are really packing for all kinds of weather. Hope it all fits in our carry ons - no checked luggage for us!

I was wondering the same things....I am thinking about taking the family Thanksgiving Week in 2011. We dont get to go in 2010 We are taking that year to pay off bills and get our emergency fund built up. But DH, who dont care if we go or not, (yes he is one of those men who dont "get" disney...LOL) finally agreed to let me start planning our trip for 2011, even though its 2 yrs away.....It will be a birthday trip for DS and DH who's bdays are teh 20th and 21st of november.....We just dont want the crowd.....UGH!!! OOHHH I may get to stay at a moderate resort this time too....if we can save the money for it!!!!

Absolutely. Have several times and we are going again this year. We love it. We usually go the Saturday before Thanksgiving and stay for 9 nights. It is wonderful. We get the "must do's" done before the really heavy crowds come and then we just chill out the last few days. We love it!! Holiday decorations are wonderful! Osbourne lights at DHS are beautiful and they are already up this year which is earlier than usual. Christmas Around the World does not start until the day after Thanksgiving, I think. It is a lot of fun, too. Many of the resorts are decorated beautifully as well and are fun to visit.

We were supposed to go during Thanksgiving week last year for 8 days. The week before, we had to postpone our trip, as DD14 was in the hospital and there was no way she was going to be released in time, nor be well enough for the trip.

I do hope to try again for that week sometime in the future.

**We even had an ADR for Thanksgiving dinner at Chef Mickey's. Some friends of ours were going the same week, so we let them use our ADR in our place.

We leave tomorrow, and will be at Disney til Wednesday. We've gone this same time frame before, and the crowds were fine. We were able to see everything we wanted with no problems!!!

The resorts were all decorated and the theme parks were too!

Can't wait til tomorrow!!!!! We'll be having lunch at Beaches & Cream!!!!

We are planning on going that week in 2010. I have never been over an actual holiday week, but with our oldest in college now, our options are much more limited and I refuse to go over the summer.
OP- since your kids are so young, I would definately go the first week in Dec and take advantage of the low crowds. I did this in 2005. We took our kids out of school (15, 11,and 7). We flew out the day after Thanksgiving and stayed 9 nights. It was wonderful!! There were many times we walked straight on to rides and sometimes we didnt even have to get off at the end because there was no one waiting to board!
Out of all our Disney trips that was my favorite week to go. We also got to enjoy all the Christmas decorations and the MVMCP.

Well, I am still leaning towards the first week in December, but I am also contending with deer hunting with my dh.
