Anyone seeing Princess and the Frog during their trip?
So I saw a more extended preview for "The Princess and the Frog" and now I'm really excited to see the film!
But it comes out right in the middle of a Disneyland trip I'm making with another adult friend and possibly my mom. I know there's a special Princess and the Frog experience in Burbank but it appears the cheapest tickets work out to $31 or $32 each, plus the drive and I'd guess parking. And somehow the idea of meeting all the princesses doesn't seem like much of a draw when I'll be visiting Disneyland anyway. (Doubt I'd be allowed to run and climb either; SIGH. )I'll be in the parks Wednesday night through maybe early Sunday afternoon, with the movie coming out "to the public" on Friday. We last went to Disneyland in June and I have at least vague plans to go again one more time before our APs run out. Do you reckon the film will be playing at Downtown Disney? Would it be worth taking a few hours out of a day at DLR to pay money to see a movie, or would you just wait until you got home? I'm worried that I can't play it by ear (i.e. go if the crowds are overwhelming but not if they're light) because I'd think the shows would get sold out pretty quickly and render that option less helpful. If it were playing at the El Capitan I'd definitely go far out of my way to see it there--how cool would it be to see a movie set in the 1920s in a 1920s-era theater??? Ah well. |

I'll be there at the same time and it crossed my mind that it would be awfully fun to take the girls to watch it if it were playing at DTD. I just don't think I can do it, though. Taking a few hours away from the parks when we can take DDs to see it in a theater at home? I'm totally psyched to see the movie, though. A few months ago, I had been keeping my fingers crossed that it would come out a week earlier than originally anticipated.

My girls won't be with me on this trip, so I won't be going to the movie until after I get back home. I do love that I get free movie cards for them from Disneyland, though! You just have to ask for one at merchandise places. They're free and you can take one child per paying adult. Oh, and you can get one pass per hopper/AP.

I have no doubt at all they will be showing it in DTD. Why wouldn't they? We won't see it then tho, we will wait until we get back so I can take DD and her friend to see it.

I'm going to the special showing at the Burbank studios...I'm going Thanksgiving night...I'm staying at the Sheraton at Katella & Harbor Blvd...I arrive at noon on Thanksgiving Day...after checkin into the hotel, I'm going across the street to Alamo to pick up a car for a 1-day rental...its only costing me about $55...I'll drive to Burbank around 3pm to find a place to eat before my 7pm movie showing...after the film & party (around midnight) I'll drive back and return the car to the Alamo lot and deposit the keys in the night deposit box...that way I don't have to wake up at 7am the next day to return the car...I can just get up at 7am and head to Disneyland!!!!...

I am thinking of taking my kids to DTD while we are there as it might be a nice option for a night off our feet during the week we are there.

Thanks for your thoughts, everyone! I wonder how hard it would be to buy tickets to the movie that weekend, though. I guess I can keep it in mind as a backup. (I'm pretty sure my friend won't really want to "waste" the time on something we can do at home, though!

For me, the whole thing comes down to where the special screening of the movie is being held. The Walt Disney Studios. The Archives is an amazing place. I got to spend a few minutes in there once and I cannot wait to see what they're going to have on display for this.
So while the Bayou Adventure thing probably won't work for me, the "class" with a Disney animator and the ability to see items from the Walt Disney Archives will be priceless. |

(Or if I read about the "class" I'm sure I assumed it was like the Academy in DCA.) I just know the last time I drove off-site for something (the Character Warehouse) it totally wasn't worth it, and that was free. I'm afraid the price of the advance screening is a touch too rich for my blood. If I lived in the area, it would be a very different matter for me!

Ahhhh. I got a flyer in the mail from Disney that noted seeing the film in their state of the art theater, learning to draw from a Disney animator, and the Archives thing, in addition to the princess meet and greet. The Archives thing grabbed my attention and soon enough I knew the dates I would be making my now annual Christmas visit to Disneyland.
