Contemporary Contempo Cafe confusion

wow was it confusing ordering quick service from this place, we actually had to grab a worker over to the side to explain this to us.

for lunch you had to put your main meal into an automatic machine, then you go to grab your desert (but you dont put the desert in the machine only the main dish), then you go pay, then you go back to grab your meal when its ready.

god i hope this changes

They have that system at a few places, including at the Poly's counter service area. I don't particularly like it, either. But, I'm sure it is more economical to operate than having CMs take your order.

Is that similiar to Artist Palette at SSR? We thought their system was confusing at first too.

I found their system very easy to use and it is once you get the hang of it. Although when my family and I stayed at the Polynesian in December 2007 we would eat at Captain Cook's that uses the same system, so I guess that's why we found it easy at the Contempo Cafe.

There are no touch screens at AP but it does follow the procedure of order entree, pick up whatever else you want from the cases, pay, pick up order when buzzer goes off.

We like the touch screens.

For us, the Contempo Cafe was a very pleasant discovery during our recent BLT stay. The touch screens admittedly took some getting used to, but once we had the hang of it, we were very happy there. The food was quite good and the staff always worked hard at keeping it clean. We've decided that we'll make a stop there on future DVC trips even if we're not staying at BLT, it's a short monorail ride away from MK.

The last time we used touch screens, a couple of years ago at Capt Cook's, they didn't allow for changes, or at least I didn;t see the option. Like the Ceasar Salad came with chicken, and you couldn't add a note that you wanted it without chicken. If they have modified the system to allow for things like this, I'll be happier with it. That is one reason we often drive to POP Century for their food court, it is still "live" and you can make minor changes to the items.

ya to be clear the food is good but its not an orderly process. you order somethings at the machine, grab other items, pay then go backwards to pick up what you order at the machine.

We like the touch screens.

Thanks Minniegirl! That seems easy enough to deal with!

I agree We actually liked the arrangement... found it quite efficient and straightforward after the first time. And the food is wonderful!

I once asked a Cast Member at Captain Cook's how to make changes on their items and he showed me how, so maybe it has changed since you last went there. They don't have that option on the screens at the Contempo Cafe, however what you do is order the item and tell the changes you want to the Cast Member working at the cash register.

I also found it to be a convoluted process.
One would think it should not be a challenging event to order a sandwich.

No - you place your main order with a real person at one counter and pay for it at another along with any other items you have grabbed from the store at SSR.

I'm such a fusspot that I probably would NEED to make changes - yeah I'm one of those people who asks the server to "hold everything" when I order a hamburger!
