Question Question for the ladies only...

sorry, guys, the topic is underwire bras, and I don't know any men who wear them.

Has anyone found a way to salvage an underwire bra that the wire has poked through? I've pulled the wire out when it's happened at work and the poking is killing me, but that destroys the bra.

Is there a way I can sew it to keep the wire inside? I'm an odd size bra, so it's hard to find bras I like that fit. I hate when this happens!

I've had the wire poke through many times. What I finally did was use a bit of super glue right over the hole. It hardens and the wire isn't able to poke back through. Trying to "re-sew" never worked for me. Wire always managed to poke back through. It was only in a fit of "near rage" that I found the glue solution.

I've done the "super glue on the hole" remedy, too! It does work. Now, I need a remedy for the underwires that just snap in half.

Ladies, if your underwires are popping out and snapping in half its definitely time for a new bra. Amazon is having a killer sale, some are a low as $5, Bali, Maidenform. Barely There, colors are select but do include black, taupes, bronze.

Bras have a shelf life of about 6 months. Buy lots and buy often.

I hate that bras only last a few months. I have an expensive size and it kills me sometimes.

And why don't they make pink ones in my size that are under $80?

Anyway, I find that the glue solution does work in a pinch (get what I did there, HA) but when I find them sticking out at home, I hand sew in a small patch of fabric over the hole where the wire sticks out. I agree that just re-stitching the hole only makes the wire poke out of another place.

And remember to put your bras in a mesh lingerie bag and wash on the gentle cycle/line dry. That will keep them from coming apart. We pay so much money for bras today, it is worth it to use those bags.

well I ahve bra's that I have had for years because it is so hard to find a size that fits and fits me well. 3 different stores and was told 3 different sizes. I tend to wear a 38DD but one store said I was a 40FFF. way too big and the cups could fold over while I was wearing it, fitter insisted it fit right ! This was Nordstroms, you'd think they'd train them better.

I recently bought the Bra Baby from Bed Bath and Beyond, they're pretty good in keeping the bra from warping too much. My problem is you can only wash one per load, unless you buy several of those things. It cost about $10 each and is worth it IMO.

OMG THAT IS THE WORST!!!!!! Happens to me with almost every bra eventually. Always in the same place too - I actually have scar tissue where it pokes thru the fabric and into my skin. Good thing the fabric soaks up the blood, lol.

Always at the most inconvenient time when you can't change bras either!

I've never had luck.

But I wonder if stitching the hole where it is poking out will help.

I use moleskin, but it's a complicated process.

First I use a seam ripper to open up about 2 inches of the casing near the end where the problem is, and I darn the hole in the casing closed. Then I use a file to remove any sharp edges on the wire. Next, I take a small patch of moleskin, fold it over a few times, and using the hole in the wire, sew it securely on so that the point is cushioned.

After that I tuck the wire back in and sew up the casing by machine. Finally, I take another small double-layer patch of moleskin and sew it over the end of the wire where the repair was made.
