Do you watch the show Three Rivers?? MAJOR HIPAA violations all over the place

OK, last nights episode was really good. I cried. I just couldn't help sit there and be amazed at the HIPAA violations. Doctor's discussing patients conditions with other patients, allowing people to ask a patient to donate an organ, allowing the patients and family memebers to line the corrider while patient was being wheeled in for surgery to have his organs harvested.

I just kept thinking, if there are any medical professionals watching this show, I am sure they are pulling their hair out. LOL

Well, it's just a TV show so they can get away with all of that.

I, too, cried. Like a baby. My MIL died from ALS so it really "got to me", and especially when he was being wheeled into the operating room "at the end." Wow. Mandy Patinkin did an excellent job with his character, really great.

I felt so sorry for the black guy, having a fever at the last minute so couldn't get the heart. But, he is a great character on the show, so if he got his heart he'd be done. This way they can "keep him around" awhile longer.

I think Three Rivers is one of the best new shows this season.

Unfortunately, Hollywood cares so little about realism in entertainment. I have been a medical consultant on movies and soaps and I constantly have to say "well, do you want it to be real, or Hollywood?" when asked about a particular medical scenario. It kills me to see things done incorrectly, but realism doesn't make $$$$

That's what I kept telling myself, "it's a TV show"..but wow.

I love Kwon (??). I was kind of glad he couldn't get the heart , because it just means he will be around more each week, and I think they are working up a NICE storyline for how he gets his heart. They better get him a heart, if he dies, I will be devasted. I agree that Mandy was incredible in that role. I honestly didn't get how his daughter could not see that this was a better way for him to go, then she had that talk with the surgeon, and explained it all. She wanted to have her father as long as she could, no matter what condition he was in. I am glad he was able to convince her.

I love this show. It is my new "ER".

I was in the hospital having my DD the same time my friend was. Same hospital, same OB, same nurse. After I delivered my DD, the nurse came in to check on my vitals. My friend and I had discussed sharing a room if we delivered that weekend together. I asked the nurse if my friend had her baby yet, so I could make sure we got assigned to the same room. The nurse couldn't tell me if my friend had her baby yet. So, HIPPA is pretty strict, I don't think Three Rivers even looks at HIPPA to base their stories.

Of course they don't because it would take away the drama and storyline of the show. It would be pretty boring if the show was an hour of "I'm sorry but because of federal law we can't discuss that."

Hence the reason I do not watch medical show. I aggravte DH too much by constantly saying "They wouldn't do that in real life" or "That's not how that happens" or "They'd never use that to treat that problem".

Just a trivial note: It's HIPAA, not HIPPA.

Television is entertainment. Following legal rules would impinge on the entertainment value of the show. I love this show and Mandy Patinkin was fabulous in his part. He deserves at least an emmy nomination next year in the guest role category. I love crime shows and they are as unrealistic as you can possibly get. I know this and ignore it. Again I watch for the entertainment value. If I wanted realism I would stick to A&E or the History channel.

I constantly have to tell my daughter that real life is not an episode of House. It sometimes takes months (instead of an hour) to correctly diagnose and treat an illness.

Thank you for pointing out what I had considered!

It's a lot like watching CSI. You will see the same suspect get questions numerous times in one day, based of DNA evidence that they always get back immedately

Thank God for that!! Can you imagine a Dr like House? Not to mention, they always get at least 3 diagnosis wrong before the figure out what it really is. Almost every patient is brought to the brink of death.

I do realize TV is for entertainment, but for some reason, lasts night episode really got to me. It wasn't just one HIPAA violation, it was like this guy was a free-for-all. "Hey everyone, this guy is offering to donate his organs, he's dying anyway, so get 'em while you can!"
