What is their background/where did they go to college/where are they from and how did that influence their career and/or their leadership style Ask a question about the direction of the industry the company is in Get a copy of their annual report or last earnings report if they are a public company, and ask a question about that Notice stuff in their office or on their desk or on their walls and ask about that Read about the company before your interview; and if they've won any awards (best place to work, etc.) ask about that Good luck!

I think it depends on the company and the job you're interviewing for. For example, if it's a technology company and you're a computer programmer, you could ask about the vision of the company and where the big boss sees people with your skills headed. If it's a retail company, you might ask instead what changes they foresee in light of the current economy. For any company, you could ask about the "green" aspects of the company and its impact on the environment. You might also want to explore how the company interacts with the community in which it resides. I liked what the previous reply said, and I also second that you must research the company and be knowledgeable about it. Good luck!

Here is what I had before I asked the question:
What's the biggest challenge YOU as the President of ------ faces, and how do you inspire your employees to meet it head on? How is that message communicated to the field? I have a consistent history of being with the same company for several years. Where do you see ------ in 5 - 10 years? (revenue/employees/future growth in North America and Europe) What changes have you had to make to your business plan or business model in light of the economic conditions? What are the company's top business goals, what's the strategy to achieve them, and how are you adjusting your strategy in light of current market conditions? And related to that: Who are your major competitors, why, and what is your organization's competitive advantage? |
