Morning Sickness
If you have never had much morning sickness during pregnancies but you do this time, is it cause to be worried or could you be ok? This is my DD's 5th pregnancy.

They say every pregnancy is different, so honestly I wouldn't be too terribly concerned. I'm about 7 weeks along now and I have horrible morning sickness, though it's not as bad as my previous pregnancy. I lost the first baby, they never found out why. My doc actually mentioned that sometimes your body just knows that something is wrong. I'm not trying to alarm you, I kind of knew something was wrong last time. I'm not getting that feeling this time around.

Like was said every pregnancy is different plus there could be a million reasons why one has more sickness than other times. My first two girls I had some morning sickness of course, but THIS pregnancy OMG did I have it. I lost over ten pds in two weeks and it was horrible cause I honestly felt like I was starving lol..come to find out the anti nausea medicine the OB gave me was what was making me sick..along with the prenatal vitamins. I discontined the meds and switched to Flintstone vitamins which helped sooo much. Now I have finished with the morn sickness (I am seven mos) and the newest thing is backaches and I swear my baby is trying to break through my ribs lol..they are killing me, I swear I can't breath (feels like an asthma attack lol) and I can't find a comfortable position to save my life lol.
I wouldn't worry too much but deff bring it up at the next OB appt just for peace of mind if nothing else.

Twice the babies... twice the barfies. I hope your dd starts feeling better soon.

Thanks so much. It makes me nervous for DD. I was never sick in the least for any pregnancy. I LOVED being pregnant. I wouldn't be nervous for her because I've had so many friends who have had morning sickness except that she is really nervous with this one and "just doesn't feel right." I've never had any problems or difficulties whatsoever so I don't know what advice to give her.

Had zero morning sickness with my first child (really, not a hint of it!), but with my second I was sick as a dog for months. Both were healthy, happy babies. And both the same gender. Everyone told me that they'd be opposite gender since the morning sickness was so opposite but it didn't turn out like that at all.
Hugs to your DD. She should talk to her doctor if she really feels something's not quite right. |

If your DD is truly concerned then she should check with her doctor for some reassurance. But every pregnancy is different, even in the same person.
I had a little morning nausea with my first one. I would just eat crackers before getting out of bed and was fine. With the second one, I was fine in the mornings but would feel sick in the evenings. I would make dinner, dish out a plate, sit down in front of it and go, "Nope!" I would end up eating crackers for dinner and maybe something more substantial later in the evening. Both babies were boys and they're still keeping me on my toes!

Boy wouldn't that be something??? She has four children now. They will all be loved just the same! I said something about twins to my DH and he told me to bite my tongue. It would be so sweet, though!! Seeing as how her youngest is 5 months old right now and this one would be born about the time he is a year old, she would certainly have her hands full. She also has a soon to be 3 year old and one who will turn 4 a month later. She likes those Irish twins. I've heard that is what it is called when they are less than a year apart. The oldest is a few years older. We will definitely tell her to talk to her doctor if she doesn't feel right but hopefully this is just anxiety and nothing to worry about. Or....just an extra baby to love... Cool!

Mine gets worse with each pregnancy.
The only time I get concerned is when it interferes with my ability to consume calories or hydration. I say "calories" b/c I decline so quickly that it became an issue of finding what would stay down and then finding things that had some substance to them even if it was crap food. (for a whole week, donuts is what I ate--and it wasn't preferred...it was simply survival! And I still lost weight-- a first for me with any pregnancy!) From a health standpoint, it isn't a big deal until it gets to the point of hyperemisis. Then it is critical to watch for the proper symptoms that necessitate a visit to the hospital for either quick IV fluids, or even a mutli-day stay to get the mom stabilized. As with any human--lack of food and water will eventually result in health consequences. And oddly--for me it doesn't matter if it is a boy or a girl and all mine are singletons. I was stuck in bed for 6 weeks this time and still wake up on some days not wanting to do anything. However, I have been barf free for over 48 hours and am just trying to navigate nausea at this point. (I'm sorry for TMI--but it is cause to celebrate as I have been sick for almost 2 months now.) If she is concerned, she should not hesitate to mention it to her doctor. With my first, I felt I was being wimpy--but with experience, excessive vomiting is nothing to play with. ETA: Morning sickness is typically a sign that the pregnancy is progressing along fine. It doesn't mean that nothing bad will happen, but it is usually reflected upon as a good sign. |

My third and last pregnancy, I felt the worst (and sick). I could also not take prenatal vitamins.
Congratulations and good luck! Hope and I am sure all is well.

I had just a touch of morning sickness with my first son for a couple of weeks. It was really nothing. With my second son, I had severe sickness the entire pregnancy. I think every pregnancy is different.
If your dd is throwing up a lot, be sure that she calls the doctor. I ended up with pre term labor at 5 months and was totally dehydrated. Luckily, I delivered a healthy full term baby that weighed just under 9 lbs!

I would recommend the same things that people recommend for cruise sickness. Sea-Bands, ginger gum (made by the Sea-band company) and ginger (either ginger candy or ginger pops).

I really only had it my last pregnancy and remember one time well. We were on our way to sea world and just about ready to enter the parking lot area and I swear it just came out of nowhere. It never was like that before where it just cropped up. and I was out of the car doing my business in seconds. I was just fine after lol. It is the joke of the house though now.
