Walking from Boardwalk

We're thinking of staying at the Boardwalk villa but wondered if anyone had some info. My DS (10) is autistic and long walks are tough...

How difficult is it to get to the other parks from the Boardwalk? I heard that you can walk to Hollywood & Epcot. How long does it really take?

Thanks for your advice!

Epcot can be done in less than 5 minutes at a quick pace, DHS took us 20 minutes and that was speed walking because it was raining. You can take the boat to both though.

Epcot is usually less than 5 minutes for us. We can usually do Studios in about 10 minutes. The boats take forever and we always beat them back when we walk.

It's faster to walk to HS if you "sneak out the back"of the villas. It took me a few tries to figure out the fastest way to exit. It's kind of a maze! I ended coming out by the quiet pool. Probably took me about 15 minutes but it was a fast pace and I was by myself. It's a good walk, but it was a delightful way to start out my day.

I found it was faster to walk to Epcot than to take the boat. The problem with the boats is timing. Often I could walk to Epcot before a boat even showed up.

If walking is a problem, take the boat to Epcot and DHS. Take the bus to AK and the MK. You aren't in a race, you are there to enjoy yourselves.

Walk to Studios is a little over a mile; to Epcot about 1/3 mile. You can take boat to either. The boast route is Studios to Swan/Dolphin to YC/BC to BW/BWV to Epcot to BW/BWV to YC/BC to S/D to Studios. Thus, Epcot is a fast shot either way but Studios boat trip can take 30 minutes or more. There is a boat "shortcut" to Studios. You can walk over a short bridge between BWV and Swan and the S/D boat stop is right on other side of that bridge and thus you can use the S/D stop both going and coming from Studios. For MK and AK use the bus if want to be left off close to the entrance of the park.

Man, you're cranking!!! I'm a fast walker but it takes me just about 8 mins to get to Epcot and 15 to get to DHS. I've left Intl Gateway at the same time as the boat to DHS...they laughed at us and said they would beat us. Nope, didin't happen. We arrived at BW at about the same time, but the boat went on to YC, then S/D. We cut though the pool area at BW, and on to DHS. We got to the bag check area just as the boat was coming around the bend!!!

One big advantage of walking to Epcot from the Epcot resorts is entering through the International Gateway. It is a quiet entry with few lines and not many people (as opposed to the masses at the regular entrance). We've decided it is one of the luxuries of staying at an Epcot Resort.

Note that is you take the boat, you still get to go in the International Gateway.

If walking is hard, the walk to Epcot might be OK, but the boat would definitley be a better bet for DHS. For other parks from BWV, you'd walk out the front and down to the bus stop. The length of that walk depends on where you are at in the resort.

Try to request a room close to the lobby or the elevators to the lobby. That would make you close to the center which is both where the dock is on one side and the exit to the busses on the other (out and to the left).

I don't know that we are that fast -- we usually have 3 kids in tow We have to carry one of them sometimes -- but they are so excited to get there. Many times the kids even run back to the room after walking all day.

We do come out and enter the back by the small "quiet" pool and our room was right near that area. USually we leave DHS before the boat got there and were back to the hotel by the time the boat docked at DHS. It just seemed so slow and all the stops. We really enjoy that walk there - -even after walking all day.
