How do you feel about people who stay at SOG (kind of long)

We were at a anniversary party last night for a some friends of ours. They are very well off, she is a lawyer, he is a Dr. You can imagine the "money" that was at the party. I am a SGT. in the Army and my wife is a surgical tech. Anyway, we were talking to another couple who we had just met and mentioned that we were heading to WDW over Thanksgiving. She asked where we were staying at I told her SOG. The lady sort of smiled, then got this look on her face like I offended her. Then she said that she could never stay anywhere but the GF or Poly concierge. She could not imagine staying anywhere else. Then she said, and these are her exact words. "I feel sorry for people who can't afford to do Disney the right way." I really did not know what to say after that. So I excused myself, because I have to admit I was a bit embarassed.

So I guess my question to all of you is do you feel sorry for someone who can afford to stay at delux, or even a mod? And can someone out there please exlpain to me what she ment by "doing disney the right way"

Ugg

She doesn't sound like a person I would want to vacation with for sure! I have stayed at a lot of resorts there and I find things I like about all of them. It was an offensive and egotistical comment just ignore her and know that she doesn't understand what DisneyWorld is all about anyway.....

Have a great trip!

I feel bad for people who cant stay at the AKL just for one nite, thats bout it.. Ive stayed at the values, mods, and deluxes.. All of them are nice in my eyes.. Yes deluxes are alot nicer but, there is nothing wrong with Pop or allstars, esp when your at the park all day.. Shes just a snob.. Probly born into money and doesnt know any better, I feel bad for her.

I've heard Shades of Green is very nice. If I stayed at Poly in cong. I would have only been able to afford one trip instead of 3.

The lady is a snob.. plain and simple. Forget her words as they are not worth remembering. Disney is for everyone...no matter where they stay!

She sounds like a Resort Snob and there are plenty of those around.
There are threads complaning about how they had to endure staying
at a Mod when they are used of staying Deluxe and how terrible it was and everyone should feel sorry for them.
I do feel sorry for them for being so narrow minded and thinking that they
are better than everyone else.
I wouldn't let what she said bother you one bit and enjoy your Vacation.

I've seen the SOG buses pull up and people getting on and off. I admit, it's the only bus that tends to make me think about the lifestyle of the people who stay at a particular resort.

I think "those are the people who make sacrifices for the rest of us"
It never occurred to me that they were sacrificing "doing Disney right"

Some people need to learn how "to do manners right"

(And I used to be an OR nurse. I know what your wife does and neither of you get paid what your worth!)

You shouldn't feel embarrassed...she should. What a demeaning thing to say to someone. She should be ashamed of herself. As far as doing Disney the right way....for me, that's doing Disney whatever way you, personally, want to do it. What a snob.

Wow, what rudeness. Obviously money doesn't buy manners.

I feel sorry for people that think the ONLY way to do Disney (or anything for that matter) is throw as much money as possible at the scenario. I'd rather spend less $$ and know that I can make my dollar stretch further than feel like the only way I can do Disney is to spend more money than I can afford, and possibly not go as often.

First of all, I would like to say thank you for serving our country. The people who serve our country have an extremely difficult job and I thank you.

Second, the woman you were speaking with was obviously full of herself. The Poly and GF are nice places, but really aren't worth the hipe or money. They are just like any other resort. They provide a roof over your head, a comfortable bed, and free transportation to and from the parks. Give me a break.

The most important thing to remember is that when you stay at SOG, you're there to have fun and enjoy yourself. THAT is the way to go.

Have a great time on your next trip.

I'm a Brit and at first I was unclear as to what SoG was all about. When I worked it out I thought how cool it was to have the forces recognised in that way. Like the servicemen thing at Believe in Seaworld - just seems you guys over there value your armed forces more than we do over here.

To give you another viewpoint - DD, DH and I were at the Beach Club one time en route somewhere else. DD looked around the foyer and said "let's not stay here, mum. It's too posh and I wouldn't feel comfortable here." I was actually quite proud of her in a bizarre sort of way that she is content with what we can afford and doesn't push for what she can't have.

Seems to me that person is right royally spoilt and needs to engage her brain before she opens her mouth.

ETA : no offence to anyone who stays at Beach - everyone does what suits them and we're a simpler sort of family! Pop all the way for us!

No offense to you - but that lady sounds like a twit!

I don't think there is a "right" way to do Disney - what works for your family and what you like is what makes the trip special.

I have never seen SOG, so I have no idea what to think of it - other than I know the people who risk their lives every day for the future and well being of every American are the majority of those staying there, so it must be a pretty terrific place!

Have a terrific trip and many thanks to both you and your wife for all that you do every day!
