Question on Crowd Calendar - The DIS Discussion Forums

On touring plans, it lists Wednesday, December 16 as an 8!?!!?! (This is on the public website, not the paid site.) The four days prececeding this are a 4 or 5. Why the big jump??? We're going Dec. 13-20, and I'm hoping that the rest of the week isn't listed as 8's. We went last year, Dec. 12-18, and don't remember horrible crowds at the end of our trip. Any idea what causes the big jump? I will still use my own touring plan and get to every park at rope drop, and use FP's, so I'm hoping we're OK, but that 8 scares me.

I'm so glad you asked this question! We are going essentially the same dates and the jump has me slightly worried too. I don't have a paid subscription, so I cannot see if the levels will go back down, but I'm just hoping that we are not in for a shock the last 2/3 of our vacation.

This was discussed on the touringplans.com blog. The reasoning is that it's sandwiched in between MVMCP days and they have both Wishes and Spectro scheduled that night. Hence, they expect big crowds there that day.

Hmm, I'm slightly confused. So, does that mean to avoid the MK that day? Even though the calender recommends it? Sorry, I'm still new to the whole Crowd Calender thing. Thanks!

The ratings are also for the MK only and is a guide to wait times for the hot rides. There's a good table below the ratings on their site explaining it. They do have a conversion for other parks, but the ratings are MK specific.

With the Xmas Party's on the other nights, the people without hoppers don't want to spend a full day at the MK if it closes at 7pm. Better value (hours per $) at the other parks on those party nights.

Not sure of your situation, but if you have a hopper, go to the MK during the day on other days and just "hop" for spector/wishes.

Now THAT is a very good question. The calendar recommends it, but it also recommends two other parks that day. It only says to avoid the day with the extra evening hours. If it were me, with a prediction of an 8, I'd skip MK - except if I wanted to see Wishes and/or Spectro. Perhaps with extra evening hours at another park AND this being one of the only days to see Wishes and Spectro, that's why they put it in the recommended column???

I am so glad you asked this, because that was the day we had planned for AK and I choked when I saw that. But that day has EMH for AK, which I guess explains the list.

I hope so. We're going to MK on the 14th.

On the 16th, we're going to HS. I hope that with Spectro and Wishes at MK, and EMH at AK, HS will be "empty" that day. There is Fantasmic that day, but Fantasmic is showing EVERY night that week, so I assume Fantasmic is no longer a crowd factor.

I'm also wondering why they say to avoid EP on 12/13, the day we're going there. Though, with a crowd level of 4, I'm not worried.

Thanks so much for asking this - we'll be there the 12th - 18th and I couldn't believe it when I saw this too!

We weren't planning on MK that day since we have the CP DP in late afternoon, but I didn't know if that meant all parks would be crazy as well.

I wondered that too. We'll be at MK on the 13th. I'm hoping at least the morning will be relatively quiet since it's open until 11 PM the night before.

Ugh, that's the day we have planned to see Spectro. We aren't going to spend the whole day there (we're doing the party the day before & are taking it easy the day after), but it's the only time we can see Spectro. Oh well, at least the other days so far are in the 4/5 range.

I, too, was surprised when I saw that prediction for that day. I think the reason why is that is the very last "regular" Wishes day until after Christmas. People will want to go to Disney World to see it that day. I don't understand why MK is recommended that day, though. I certainly would not for that reason alone. Most people choose not to park hop and may choose that MK day so they can see the regular Wishes before the Holiday Wishes is shown many days in a row.
