do you have my disney girl doll?
Does your dd love it?
I'm thinking they are perfect for my dd's - so I'm planning to order - but just thought I'd see what y'all thought since I don't buy anything without consulting the DISboards first!

we have the ones from a few years ago. I got them on a great sale as a "trial" doll to see if the girls would like them enough to get the AG dolls. They did play with them nicely and we have since moved to the Engel Dolls from Germany. I got the Snow white and Aroura costumes for them and the clothes seem to fit ok on both.
They are made well But the hair on the Disney dolls is a ratty mess now. My girls are not bad at all with dolls and the hair just fuzzed terribly. Hopefully they have improved it.

I love the outfits and we use those on our AG dolls all the time, but the Disney doll wigs are very cheaply made. After less than an hour out of the box the hair on the three dolls we owned looked very mussy. Worse though is that it's very fine and so hard to brush without tangling it worse or pulling it out.
We kept the clothes and tied the hair into ponytails for the dolls' donation to our community's thrift shop. AG is more expensive but the wigs on AG and Engel dolls hold up very well making them more than worth the money IMO.

The hair on these dolls is horrible, to say the least!

We have 2 of them. Display dolls only - one is Aurora from her tea party. The quality of AG dolls can't be matched in my opinion.

Hair is messy and hard to control. DD never played with hers at all, go with AG if you want a doll that will last. Your DD will most likely want the AG anyway.

I got an AA version of the My Disney Girl doll for my DD a few years ago and while it is nice, it isn't any better than say, a doll you could get at Toys R Us. DD hasn't played with it much as she's recently gotten the Princess Tiana toddler doll from Toys R Us and I have to say, the hair on that doll is much better.
DD10 also has an AG doll someone gave her and like previous posters have said, the quality is unmatched. The price is hard to swallow though. |

Thanks for the imput - sadly though - now I'm BUMMED
My girls aren't interested in AG dolls - only wanted these 'cause they were dressed like going to the parks - if there was a AG girl like that we'd get her but since there's not...UGH!Is there another doll out there? I'm not necessarily looking for a doll to last (collectible or anything) - we have oodles of dolls around here -just wanted something different - 1 dd has redhair - and she always point out dolls that look like her... Well could you get an AG and just buy Disney outfits? Is this possible or do the outfits only come on the dolls? My girls just got their first AG dolls and would love some princess outfits for them.

Yes you can buy the outfits (25-29.99)- I had a gf do this for her dd who has AG dolls. But the doll comes with the ears & t-shirt & lanyard is what's so cute & that you can't buy.

My 5-year-old DD got one on our last trip, and loves her. Yes, the hair is hard to manage, but what I did was use detangeling spray (that you'd use on a human), and combed through it the best I could, and then braided it. It's been okay since.
American Girl outfits do fit well on the Disney Dolls. We didn't get any of the extra Disney outlets...we'll save that for next trip. But we do live near the American Girl outlet in Oshkosh, WI, so we buy clothes there. Our doll has a really pretty face, green eyes, and reddish brown hair. My DD has named her Riley, after her BFF in Kindergarten.

We bought a Disney Girl two years ago. We've since bought an AG as well. Disney Girl "Lisa" has been a good doll for us. Her hair is not as nice as the AG dolls but we've kept it under control.
A real doll brush (metal bristles) - buy it and use it instead of the plastic one that comes with the Disney Girl it makes a world of difference! The doll has been everywhere except up the tree in our front yard and her hair is still good. Clothes are interchangeable - DG can wear AG outfits, AG can wear DG outfits (we have Belle and Minnie). If you want an AG that wears disney clothes, do it!

Cheaper alternative to AG= Gotz dolls. (They are the original makers of AG.) You can often get the 18" ones for $30 at Tuesday Morning. Nice very nice quality. DD9 has had one since she was 2 and she still looks great.

Well I gave in and ordered them - the tip to try detangling spray & braiding it said we'll go for it. My girls don't do the hair usually anyway - they just play with them in strollers & dress them - so we''ll see
and I know I'll get the big I told you so when I come back Day after Christmas & whine about it - LOL |
