I'ma Disney Wedding Guest-Have some questions

I am SO excited to have been invited to a Disney wedding. My cousins daughter is getting married.

I have some questions. The wedding is the the wedding pavilion, mid day. There is a pre wedding recption at the Croquet Court at the Boardwalk Villas and a reception at the Atlantic Boardwalk Hall. There is also a simulateous Children's party at the Marvin Gardens AB while the recption is occuring.
Then that evening, there is a Dessert Party at Epcot - Isle de France . It's in January.

We are traveling from CA and hoping to take fewer bags, but I'm not sure about attire. Would you assume the wedding, even though it's mid afternoon, would be formal? DH and 12 year old son it jackets and ties? DD has a nice dress from her 8th grade graduation-tea length, strapless-like a winter formal kind of dress. I am rather Pooh Sized, and was hoping to wear nice black pants (silk or taffeta) with a very sequiny, sparkly shell and jacket. Are these appropriate?

What about the dessert party. Do people still dress up (like wearing clothes from the reception?) Or would it likely be "dress down"?

Has anyone had a children's party? My kids are 15 and 12. Has anyone had or planned one of these?

Obviously, we are thrilled to be attending. My oldest ds (age 17 1/2) won't be coming, as he has already had to miss school for college visits. We are staying at a Boardwalk Villa (we exchanged our timeshare)

We are ordering the wedding gift now to be sent to the bride, as we don't want to deal with it at the wedding.

Any thoughts for a "Disney guest"?

Thanks

Julia

If I were you, I would just ask the bride/groom what kind of dress is expected. Lots of people asked us this question, it's completely appropriate.

We also had an afternoon wedding ceremony at the Wedding Pavilion and told guests to wear semi-formal (jackets/ties), basically standard wedding wear. Find out about the bridesmaids dresses, are they short or long? This will help you figure out how formal it is is. Careful with sequins as sequins tends to be dressier, and more evening appropriate.

As for the dessert party, is it right after the reception or is there a gap in between? If it is right after, I myself would assume everyone would just wear their clothes from the reception. If there was a time gap, I would probably change to be more comfortable. Best advice is again, ask the couple.

Good call about getting wedding gift ahead of time. The bride and groom will appreciate not having to transport it back.

Good luck, it will be so much fun! Our guests told us it was the best wedding they had ever been to - Disney does a great job!

Thanks for your input. The reception is 4:30-7:30, the dessert party is at 8:30, to watch Illuminations. Should be fun.

Just to give you some ideas as to what our guests did. We were married last November and we had a 9:00am ceremony in Epcot in Italy - immediately followed by a pre-reception from 10:00 to 11:00 and then a reception from 11:00 to 3:00 in Atlantic Dance Hall. We have 50 people attend so about 25 men. All but three wore suits, two wore a sportsjacket, shirt and tie and one was very casual (don't ask - my girlfriends husband who does NOT dress up - actually I did not mind this - I was just glad they were there). Most of the women wore dresses - casual afternoon dresses or some a bit dresser. The others wore pant suit type outfits most with black pants and dresser tops.

We had a 5 hour break and then the Dessert Party in Epcot UK Lower. Most came back in pants and sweaters - it was kind of cold in November so I am sure it will be cold in January. My three bridesmaids said they wanted to come back in their dresses - they all came back in jeans and sweaters - they said it was too cold. I did not mind at all.

Here are a few group shots to give you an idea what people wore. It is in the Atlantic Dance Hall so you can also see what the inside looks like if you have never been there. It is kind of like an art deco night club.

We had two little boys at our wedding - one was 4 and he was the ringbearer so he wore a tux. The other was his brother and he was 2 so he just wore cute pants and a shirt.

It is so great of you to get your gift to the bride and groom before the wedding.

You will love staying at The Boardwalk Villa. This is where we stayed for our wedding and it was great to be right there.

Thanks - it was great.

To the original poster. If you are heading to the DP directly from the reception, make sure you bring a jacket or sweater with you. I am sure in January it will be cool.
