Quick suggestions for 5yo boy bday gift.

I would like to spend about $40 (ish) but I really don't have any ideas. Anyone with a 5year old that could give me a great gift idea? Thanks!

Many boys (of all ages) love building types of toys - K'nex, Legos etc.

I second the Lego idea. My DS5 plays with little else right now and is getting very creative. His manual dexterity is great and I credit the Legos for that. If the child hasn't had many Legos the big tub of all kinds of pieces is a good starter, as are the community people and wheels sets on the Lego site:

http://search2.lego.com/exec/?q=comm...=2057&cc=US&u=
http://shop.lego.com/product/?p=9241...2057&ShipTo=US

Many of the smaller community sets (police car, etc.)can be put together to make a great $40 gift, too. Google 'Lego coupons' to find possible codes for shipping discounts.

The boys in my class LOVE Lego blocks to play with during indoor recess.

Matchbox car kits. There are some dinosaur sets out there right now my nephews love. Just be sure to buy extra track because there is never enough!

How about Stomp Rockets?

A friends son got a book about paper airplane making. He also got some thick paper to go along with this book. Kept the little guy busy for hours.

Legos. I have yet to meet a boy who doesn't enjoy legos, but have met some who don't like transformers, bionicals, star wars, pokemon, and yes, even hotwheels (ds11 LOVED them, played with them for years, we have hundreds, ds6 has no interest - everytime I bring them out, ds11 plays with them! ).
