Christmas in New Orleans
I know there are several dissers from NOLA, so please, help me out here!
I am hoping that we can go to the Christmas parade on Canal St. on 12/5 and I noticed on the web site I was looking at that it mentioned "Christmas on Jackson Square" with a block party from 5-8 the same day as the parade. So, tell me about "Christmas on Jackson Square". Is it as much fun as it sounds? Is it really free? Any info appreciated. I also saw that there is an Art from Walt Disney exhibit at City Park. Have any of you been to this? I was thinking that during the days between Christmas and New Years this might be a fun thing to do. I am trying to come up with some new and different things to do at Christmas that won't cost a whole lot. Going to New Orleans would only cost us a half a tank of gas and one meal so I thought these things would be a great choice. |

Hey there!
I haven't been to Christmas in Jackson Square, but yes, usually the block parties and events in the French Quarter are fun and free! I wanted to tell you though that there is an event called Celebration in the Oaks in City Park (where NOMA is) that is lovely also! We never miss it! Basically, all of the oak trees and Botanical Gardens in City Park are decorated with lights- really beautiful. Storyland and the amusement park area with rides is also decorated and open. It is not free though- admission is $7 per person. It is from Dec 4-30, 6-10pm. I haven't been to the Disney exhibit at NOMA yet, but I can't wait to see it! |

Thank you. It all sounds great. Even at $7 per person, it wouldn't be too bad. We aren't going to disney this year
and really needed something new to fill the void. DD and I both love New Orleans and this just sounded like a lot of fun.

Sorry, I've neve been to the Christmas on Jackson Square thing either, but I wanted to second the Celebration in the Oaks--it's fantastic.
Also wanted to suggest these websites: http://www.neworleansonline.com/christmas/ http://www.fqfi.org/ Look into the Reveillon celebration on the second link. It's a month long Creole celebration of Christmas and there are a lot of different events. Hope you have a great visit! |
