Sadie Hawkins Dance-do you have one?
The kids went to the Sadie Hawkins dance last night (where the girl asks the boy to the dance). At our school the couples dress alike (most kids got matching T-shirts). DD and her best friend went. DD asked the boy that she has liked for almost a year so she was in heaven-they wore Superman t-shirts. Her friend went with her boyfriend and they wore Batman t-shirts.. DS14 didn't get asked by a girl so he just hung out with other friends. They had a blast.
DD's date's birthday was yesterday and the girls got him a cake as a surprise-the look on his face when he saw the cake was just awesome (he is a REALLY nice boy too).

Yep we have one here...We actually have started looking for dresses..its usually right around Christmas time.
Sadie's here is more "formal" than homecoming. For homecoming all the kids wear special tshirts (sold through school) and jeans. For Sadies' its more party dress type clothes. DD was joking with her bf last night that she gets off cheap for Sadies though, even with tickets and dinner its still waaaaayyyy cheaper than Prom..lol

Back in 1970 I organized a Sadie Hawkins Day dance for the Future Farmers Club at my high school. I think they'd be out of vogue now as girls ask boys out all the time. Weird message to send that it takes a special dance for a girl to be ok asking a boy for a date. Just my opinion. I don't know the kids involved here and I'm not suggesting they'd be traumatized, just that's it's kind of old fashioned.

When I was in high school we had "girl's choice". Same thing I guess. I have to ask my freshmen if they still have it now.
