new years eve dilema

Many trips to WDW, but our first holiday trip. We are staying at GF 12/28-12/30. I have a reservation at the Contemporary 12/31 MK view(thinking late fireworks from our balcony, etc.). Heres the dilema-just held a Grand Suite at the Swan on points(ie. free). I know this is a nice problem and perhaps a little spoiled sounding, but looking for thoughts?

Have never stayed at Contemporary and have stayed at Swan multiple times. And while we can fortunately afford the Contemporary-$700 vs. free is worth thinking about. Also, liking the idea of a 400 checkout on the 1st(the day we leave w/ 730 flight that night). thanks

well, as someone who has both the CR MK tower view and the Dolphin booked for 4 nights into and over Christmas Day, I just added up the savings of the Dolphin over CR ( Which we have booked as a birthday surprise for DS, his dream resort) anyway, our difference for the 4 nights is $1080.00...Now, I am all for having our son live his dreams, but there is NO WAY if he knew the difference, he would agree to spending that. The Dolphin is his next favorite and the location for him to just head to DHS for RNR, TSM and TOT and you are talking NYE....that 4 pm check out is pure gold. In a heartbeat I would go for free...700 is a large number and you never know what is around the corner. Also, switching in, MAYBE getting your CR room at 3 pm and then out at 11 am? that is a lot of $$$ for 20 hours. You have many options with the awesome Swan location for viewing fireworks, or heading into a park for a while and then back to the boardwalk etc. 2-300 would be my "maybe it's worth it" amount...and we have 40% off the CR for Christmas right through NYE....but it is STILL a 1080 difference! Maybe one day if I am literally consumed in an overflow of $$$, but my advice, go with the Swan...(awesome room BTW) and we have stayed at CR, yhe rooms are nice, and huge, but they are not suites.
no matter what you choose, have a great time!

thanks for the responce. Pretty much what I was thinking, but wanted an objective observation. Now if you were burning points would you go for the 20000 for 24-25 hours and the suite or 10000 for the standard room, considering limited time in room with same late checkout?

Also, love the finfan moniker, we refer to the swan and dolphin as the fin and feather and my family always says oh youre staying off the rail when we stay at the swan(which we love as our second favorite resort after the gf). thanks again

hmmmm, well, to be honest, we are commandoes at the park, I would go for the standard room as we are not in it much..I mean, you could literally take a second trip on that $700 savings and booking again on the left over points. It does not have to be WDW, any Sheraton destination. Travel is SOOOOO much nicer when it is dirt cheap however, one thing to consider is , has SPG been altering the use of points? Do you feel like you may risk losing points if not used soon? OTH, maybe you wish to use up points and splurge. NYE is jammed in the parks, so if you think you will be utilizing the room go with creature comforts that you like. I wold save the points myself tho...maybe book a little Valentine get-a-way
oh, and thanks for the compliment on the moniker...it is actually 3 -fold...Miami Dolphins fan, Dolphin resort Fan, and Jimmy Buffet's "Fin's Up" song is oneof my favorite, so there ya go!

good stuuf. Im not too worried about being able to use my SPG points. I am worried about being able to use my 250k usair points in any reasonable fashion. Perhaps a discussion for a different forum. Thanks again.
