Budget hotel near US
My friend and I are looking to go down to Orlando Feb. 10-17. We don't really want to do Disney since we won't have the kids so we were thinking of going to Universal..First of all---Are there a lot of things to do in the area around Universal? We don't want to have to rent a car for the whole length of our trip so we want to make sure we pick a good location..Secondly Do any of the hotels near Universal offer a shuttle from the airport? and Finally Can anyone recommend a decent, but mind you budget, hotel near there? Our dates are flexible right now, but my friend would just like to be there during Valentine's day..TIA!
update: never mind I just talked to my friend again and she said she wants to go to Hollywood Studios instead lol wish she would just make up her mind lol Last edited by sbpebbles; 11-13-2009 at 07:32 PM. Reason: change of local |

There are plenty of hotels in the area between US and HS that will allow you to easily go between any of the Orlando area parks. But I might suggest you post in the Orlando Hotels board or the Universal Studios board, the people there can offer you plenty of help and advice.

If you have an AAA book you can look along Major Boulevard or South Kirkman Road; there are a lot of hotels in that area and they are walking distance to USF. And there is no such thing as a free shuttle to any of them from the airport. Mears buses, taxi, limo, or rental car.

I lived in the MetroWest area for a few years (near Universal), and in all honesty, I'd avoid South Kirkman altogether. There's just been too much violent crime in that area in the last few years. Also, some of the hotels are on the other side of Kirkman....which means you need to cross a major highway to get over to US.
