Dining table size/Dining with others

I was wondering if people ever dine with strangers and choose the larger table sizes or not? Part of me was thinking it would be nice to dine with another family or people just as a way to meet new people. On our previous two cruises we dined alone with just the 4 of us. I would love to see what others think about this.

I have done both, and there are advantages and disadvantages, so its personal preference.

For
  • Lots of nice people.
  • Exchange ideas and experiences.
  • Get new friends.

Against
  • Will slow down service/ talking etc.
  • Kids might play up.
  • Sharing wine or booze, do all people booze/buy.
  • What happens if you do not get along, ruin cruise, eat upstairs?
What happens if they are late/ slower/ faster eaters than you.

To take the 'random' bit out best to post on the cruise meets thread and get to know people there, then suggest and link ressies.

In 17 DCL we have had our share of great tablemates and no so great....luckily the not so great have only been 2 times.

I have never found service to be slowed down while eating with other people...I guess it could if the other party/parties showed up extremely late every night but we never had that happen.

We usually have a great time meeting new people and keep in touch with many we have dined with.

If you do wind up with not so compatible dinner mates don't let it ruin your cruise...speak to a head server/dining room manager right away and see if another table can be arranged.

We've had great table mates on all of our cruises and look forward to meeting new people quite often from different countries. It helps to keep an open mind and remember there's a huge world out there.

We love being able to dine with others and share our experiences both Disney World and cruise.

You can either:

A. Call DCL and request it or
B. Use the Contact Us section of the DCL website to request it.

Note that it will only be a request. There is no guarantee it will happen. DCL tries to please everyone but it's not always possible. Actually if you think about it, pleasing everyone is impossible cause someone will always find fault.

Good luck!

There is one oval table that can seat 15 in each dining room which is the largest single table. I believe each station seats 36. We were at this table for 15 on our first cruise. There were 5 families of 3 each. All of the kids were in the same age range (give or take a year). I thought that was nice that they did it like that & I do not believe it was left to chance but I think that someone put some thought into that arrangement.

We had 10 people sitting at our table, all people we were traveling with.
