First Timer - Tent Camper!

Hi y'all. I've been to the world over 20 times, but the first time will be tenting it for a few days at Fort Wilderness in mid-January.

I have a few newbie questions:

- Can magical express be used when camping at Fort Wilderness?
- I know I cannot use a premium, preferred location camping site as they are rocky and we will not be able to secure our tent in the soil, but from your experience, what would be the best area to request if we want to be closer to boat launch to MK and Trail's End?
- Has anyone stayed in a tent in January? Unbearably cold or still o.k?

Thanks everyone for your help!

Yes, Magical Express CAN be used as a guest at the Fort.

You can set up a tent on any site, but only the premiums are full concrete. The partial sites, full sites, and preferred sites all have a sand/coquina pad that is well suited to set up a tent.

The partial sites are least expensive. Loop 1500 is close to the Meadows area (Pool, Bike Barn, Trading Post). Loop 2000 is not close to anything, but is quiet.

Full Sites have nice roomy areas and Loop 1600 is kindof close to the Meadows area. In addition, they are a bit more expensive than partial, but do have sewer. Loop 1700, 1800, and 1900 is a bit further from Meadows than 1600.

Preferred Sites are some of the oldest sites in the campground, so can be the smallest, but they are in Loop 100, 200, and 300, right near the Marina, Settlement, and Trails End/Pioneer Hall. These cost a little more than the Full Hookups.

We spent a week in a tent at FW in October. We were in the 1500 loop and it took us about 20 minutes to walk to the marina, that was at our two year olds pace. We had two nights that the temperature dipped down to 50 degrees and were thankful for our propane heater.

Weather in January is typical unpredictable Florida winter weather. Could be warm... could be freezing. You just never know what you are going to get. However, it is normally comfortably cool.
