Disappointed in myself. I realize how spoiled I am.

Long story short, I planned a quick trip with my two little ones. No DH. I do it all the time. I tried to make it budget friendly. Already have annual passes, free dining. So I booked riverside. We arrived on the evening and it was already dark. Me and both ds's trekking around riverside in the dark. We had astandard location (mistake) and it took forever for me to find. By the time we got to the room I was already feeling none too magical. Fast forward to 2 o clock am. Ds gets sick. Then I feel sick at the knowledge I am by myself w 2 little kids, no car, and at a hotel with no room service. Thankfully he is much better today. I am hoping it was just a case of motion sickness. I feel better too. I moved to the poly. I should feel so thankful to have even been able to stay at riverside and I am disappointed that it wasn't magical for me at all. I stayed there beforeand enjoyed it very much, but I don't see going back there again.

I had a similar experience our last trip.
Everything seemed to be going wrong- slight sickness, rainy yucky weather and staying at fort wilderness cabins and we couldnt find our way around/everything seemed to be going wrong.
Trieid to move resorts but NOTHING was available.
We ended up having a wonderful trip, but i'll never stay there again b/c i have a bad taste in my mouth. I'm just too darn spoiled- it felt too much like camping and roughing it- I just like a more resort/hotel/catered to feeling :-)

Sometimes you just have a case of bad Karma where a resort is concerned. I am glad you switched to what wil make your trip magical and I hope your little one is all well!

Have fun and no, you aren't spoiled, you just know what you want and what works for you!

Sorry you went through that. Well you have to think of it as a lesson learned and just move on for next time. Stay where you know it will be easier especially with the kids.
I too go away alone with my 3 girls and we take little mini trips also (not to disney but other places). I know its hard to pick, we go to a resort which is more expensive around x-mas but we love it there it has everything, then there is the place that is $100 cheaper per night (also very nice and renovated but smaller and alot easier to get around and not have to wait until late to check in). This year im going to the cheaper place but in the end it wont be a big hassle and alot easier to get around. The more expensive place is not worth the aggravation. Luckily for me its the other way around and we can save some money and stay longer.

Don't be disappointed in yourself, you did what was best for what was going on. Luckily you could and I don't consider that spolied at all. I've been at Riverside with a sick child by myself with no car and its no fun. My dd was throwing up non-stop and I had to carry her from the boat to bell services and ask for a ride to our room, I was told 'it will be at least 20 minutes' in very non-sympathetic way and I had to ask for a bag for her to throw up in. A a nice cabbie gave us a ride to the room, for free. I eventually called 911 for dd to go to the ER and everything worked out in the end. But really, not a single staff member at POR was helful in the least. It did leave a bad feeling.. but I got over it in time and still stay there... with a charged cell phone and cash for taxi's at all times!!!

Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

Glad to hear that everyone is feeling better and that you were able to end up making your trip a magical one. You talk about spoiled, just ask my DH, he will tell you that I am the one that is spoiled My DH graciously booked us a trip to Disney in December for my B-day because he knows how much I have always wanted to see Disney during the Holiday Season. Well it started out staying at ASMo for 7 nights. I should of stuck with that but didn't want to be in with the POP/Warner crowd so I talked my DH into switching to CSR. Then I saw that BC was opened and talked him into that....now mind you that he doesn't care at all because it is my B-day trip and he likes the Epcot Resort area and has always wanted to stay there. However, on top of that we decided to add on 2 more days to our ressie, plus we are doing a lot of Signature restaurants as well. So our cheap little trip (we have already been there this past March) has turned into a huge family trip....again The reason why he is so willing to dish out the extra money for all of this is because after this trip we are going to start getting our condo ready to be put on the market and want to buy a house, therefore we don't know when the next time we will be back.

I hope you and the kiddos are doing much better today...DH and I are supposed to go next week at the Poly and if he cannot go I am going to take my nieces and thought I would downgrade to the POFQ and save some $ to spend on them in the gift shops but the thought of the buses all the time and if they get ill etc....makes me really want to stay at the Poly

We took them in January and stayed at the Poly and when the little one was sick all night long the Poly was incredible...they came out multiple times all night long to help me clean the room and bring new linens. The next morning they replaced the bed and cleaned the carpets.....incredible staff

I understand how you feel. We love the Poly and BC and it's very hard to stay at other places. We finally branched out and recently tried both POR and CBR and while we really did enjoy both of those moderates, we truly missed the "extra" perks at the deluxes and the overall feeling we have when staying at deluxes. In any event, good for you for making the switch and I hope your trip is wonderful!!

Sorry you had bad experience. I too think I am spoiled....I saw in your siggie that you stayed at the swan/dolphin this year. How was that? Did it live up to your expectations? AND- how was poly? I sooo badly want to stay there too. We just stay at AKL....

I recently stay at POR just me and my two boys 12 and 15 and felt the same way you did. They tried to put us at the farthest building from the food court and traveling with a diabetic this would not work they agreed to move us to a closer building but we had to wait a couple of hours which was fine. This was our third time staying there and for some reason it seemed to lose a little bit of the magic I felt the first two times staying there. We will definently go with a deluxe next time.

Glad to hear things are better this today. We stayed at POR once and while we didn't have the complications you did, I just felt we were kind of off in the bushes. Room was nice, resort overall was nice, just didn't care for the environment.

I don't think you're spoiled, I think you know what you like and what you require to be comfortable. Nothin' "spoiled" about that!

We have recently upgraded from POR to AKL, very reluctantly by DH. I have been very lucky (and spoiled) in the last few years in my international travels at work by staying at five star resorts, always CL. Especially in Asia the service and rooms are amazing... (unfortunately this life is over, in the toilet along with the economy). Disney, as we know, has a long way to go in regards to competing at this level so I was having a tough time imagining staying two weeks at a moderate. BC and Poly were okay last time, but certainly not in line with what I had been staying at. Wanted to try something new this time... so although I persuaded DH to agree to the trip by staying at POR, once done I managed to persuade him on the upgrade to AKL. I know I sound like a real I'm really not, and the point of this post is that I get it - especially if I was on my own, with sick kids - last time at BC (before we all came down with food poisoning/flu) DH went to CM in gift shop and asked for a broth soup for DH who was sick as a dog. CM went in the back and a Chef came out with chicken noodle soup, crackers, apple juice and when DH offered to pay, would not take any money and encouraged him to come back if he needed anything else. If you can swing it, do it. With no apologies to anyone (does anyone ever apologize for staying at a value when they could have afforded to stay at a deluxe?)

I understand how you feel. We usually do deluxe. I'm taking my DS (8) by himself next week and we are staying POR since I don't think we will spend much time at the resort. I'm worried. I have already thought about ---what if someone gest sick etc. I'm not even there yet and I'm already missing the extra perks of the deluxe resorts.

It wasn't building 34 by any chance, was it? That is the resort boonies they put us in last month. I have to say that I am sad to agree with you. That was my 4th stay at POR, and it has lost a bit of the magic for me as well.

OP--Don't beat yourself up over staying at whatever resort fits your family.
