New Year's Eve -- Annual Pass Question

We will be arriving on Dec 31st around 8:30pm. We were not planning on going to a park that night, but I would like to purchase annual passes so that we will be ready to run bright and early the next morning. If I remeber right, you cannot by them at the resorts. Can you get them at DTD? If the parks are all closed due to capacity will their ticket booths still be open?

Any tips on the best way to do this would be appreciated.

Yes, you can buy them at DTD, at least you could in 2007 when I bought our SPs there. If I remember correctly you need to find guest relations.

Yes,you can purchase the APs at DTD Guest Relations.I don't know if they close the ticket booths, but the "outside" Guest Relations windows will be open at the Parks and you can buy them there.

But if you buy them the day before don't they get activated immediately? You would technically lose a day on your pass? Maybe it won't matter for you if you are not planning a trip the next year at the same time.

We upgraded our passes on 12/31 last year so we could use them for 2 NYE parties! The tickets run from date of purchase to the same day next year so you actually get 365 + 1 day's use.

Also, if you are getting new passes you should consider buying a discounted ticket and then upgrading. That way you get a little bit of a break on the cost. Also, this would work for your plan to hit the 1st park day running. Buy a discounted ticket in advance, use it that morning, upgrade sometime before you return home. You can upgrade anytime within 14 days of first use.

Just some thoughts.

I thought your ticket wasn't activated until your first use. Is this correct?

It is different with AP's. They activate when you purchase them. Now you can order a voucher ahead of time, but it will still activate if you go to guest relations on the 31st of December to turn them into passes so you can go right into the parks first thing on January 1st.

this is great info. We won't be back at the same time next year. ( we will be going again in May. ) Purchasing a one day ticket , then upgrading can you do this and still get the dvc discount?

You can always get DVC pricing so long as you have your blue member card and ID with you, regardless if you are purchasing or upgrading.

It is best to buy a multi day ticket which will get you a bigger discount over gate price. Use the ticket first and they will bridge the ticket to full gate price when upgrading. You must use the ticket first otherwise they will only give you the price you paid. Make sure the gate price of the ticket you buy is less than the price you will pay for the AP. I don't think they will give you a refund for any overage.

I think this is all covered in the sticky link I posted earlier. Cheshire Figment is the ticket expert!
