Algae, us and the Bash on the Boat - day 4

Our bad luck continues….there was such a bad noise is our room last night that after 2 hrs of just tunring over in bed that I decided to call the front desk and complain. A Security Man pops down to see them, and explains that there are two machine rooms, one above and one just down the hall, that is causing the walls to vibrate and reverberate. The front desk offer them the use of the connecting suite if the noise is less there. We move the suitcases, etc., through the connecting door and I finally get off to sleep, only to be woken at 4.00am.

Rose is picking me up to go and watch the Magic sail in. Mike, Robin, Nancy and Chuck are waiting for us down there and at approx. 5.15am, the Magic finally comes into view.

Rose drops me back at the hotel at about 6.00am and they arrange to meet up at 9.30am to check out and make our way over to the Port to drop off the luggage and then return the hire cars. Rick is still asleep when I return, so I complete the packing and the blog. Rose and June are ready and waiting at reception at 9.30am and we make our way over to the terminal. As We are a bit early, we are directed towards the day lot to wait until 10.00am. We meet Cass, Rob and Kira and also Bernie and family whilst we wait.

The call comes at 10.00am to move over to the main terminal and after the luggage is left with the porters, June and I make our way up to the check-in area whilst Rick and Rose take the cars back to Budget. I can check us in (June has to wait for Rose as she has all the paperwork) and even though we are really early, our boarding pass number is #6, the lowest we’ve ever had.

Even though I have checked in I have to wait for Rick to return and collect his Key to the World card. We can then join the massive queue for the cruise ID photo. Unfortunately there is a long wait as the computer system has broken down. At 12noon the first guests move on through the Mickey ears and we are still in the queue for our ID photo. The queue though is moving fairly quickly now and once our photo is taken we are allowed to embark with all the passengers with #2 boarding number – result. Just a shame that we didn’t get to chat to all the BOB’ers in the terminal, although quite a few friends did come up and say Hi.

“Disney Cruise line proudly welcomes all the way from London, England the Miller Family”…..yeh, we’re onboard! And as we are onboard so early, we are directed to Parrot Cay for lunch. We really enjoy eating here on our first day and it reminds of our cruise last year when we ate here for the first time with Becky and Sean. As the rooms will not be ready until 1.30pm, there is plenty of time for a stroll round the deck to catch up with people we know. They find quite a few up on deck 10, but as it is extremely hot so we don’t stay up there too long. As the new chairs on the seats by the adult pool are very comfy, we sit and wait for 1.30pm.

Carry on luggage is finally deposited in the room and there is a new Castaway Gift this time – a sailor style bag and some drink flasks. We also have confirmation of our on-board credit and receive our excursion tickets. Up on deck 9, we sit around relaxing until it is time for the DIS meet at 3.00pm. We spend an enjoyable time talking to Cath and Sean who are also from England. The meet at 3.00pm was so much fun, getting to meet new friends and old, catching up with news from home and swapping gifts.

Mandatory lifeboat drill is at 4.00pm, so the group starts to break up at 3.30pm, so that life jackets can be collected from our cabins. All our luggage has arrived and as they have 20 mins to spare, some clothes are unpacked. Once the drill is completed it’s time for Sail Away Party.

I take the opportunity to ring my Mum in the UK to say that they are OK and to ask if everything is OK at home (which it is). She promises to ring in a couple of days, just to touch base.

Dinner tonight at 5.45pm is in Parrot Key and is a taste of the Caribbean. Our dining companions for this cruise are Mike and Robin and Walt and Di. Steve, Laura and their family will join them tomorrow. The food is delicious, and I even have a cocktail which is unusual for me – a banana colada type drink…yummy. Dinner service is so efficient there is time before the show at 8.30pm for us to complete the unpacking.

The Welcome Aboard show is very enjoyable – the Disney Magic Performers, comedy and juggling from Randy Cabral (what is a cruise without a juggler?) and what is described as physical comedy with Alfred and Seymour. They are extremely funny and we will be going along to their adult show tomorrow. Captain Tom (Capt Personality!) makes an appearance on stage and introduces his senior staff.

At the end of the show I am so tired that it is time to call it a night. Back in the cabin, one last task is to assemble the fish extender gifts for delivery during the week.
