CBR - Can you smell the smoke from the smoking areas?
We will be staying at CBR in 10 days (yeah!), and I have been trying to figure out what area to request. I am thinking of Aruba or Jamaica, but I saw a map in another thread that showed several designated smoking areas in these sections, so I was wondering if the smoke smell will travel into the nearby rooms. I want to have this figured out ahead of time so I don't have a problem with my room, since the smell of smoke tends to give me a headache. Thanks!!!
I did look through some of the smoking "sticky" thread at the top of the page but it is sooo long and didn't find my answer, so I apologize if this post is repetitive. Last edited by 44disney; 11-10-2009 at 10:22 PM. Reason: more info |

We just got back from 7 days at CBR and stayed in Aruba. Our building was 52, kind of in the center of the "village", so we weren't far from Aruba at all. I think there was only one day I saw a person smoking the whole time we were there. By looking at the map it looks like the smoking areas are really close to the buildings, but they aren't. I believe they are along the sidewalks (or at least that's where I saw someone smoking) I'm terrible at judging distance, but I highly doubt you will smell any smoke at the buildings. Wait...I see some other areas, also that look closer to the buildings...but I didn't walk over in those directions, so can't say for sure. I can say if you are in building 51 or 52 you shouldn't have a problem.

I am also a nonsmoker and do not like the smell of cigarettes, but come on. Every hotel/resort will have a smoking area. If the smell of smoke affects you badly look into renting a vacation home and avoid smokers all together.

Ask for a room away from the smoking areas.
It should not be a problem at any resort. Enjoy your trip!

Ask for a room that is NOT facing a courtyard and you should be fine. Just about every courtyard is a DSA. Along with several located on the path around the lake.
This question was brought up before. Someone was concerned because there are so many smoking areas at CBR. This is the way I see it... I feel that the large number of smoking areas actually decreases the "amount" of smoke. I think that if there were say, only one or two DSA's then they would be heavily crowded, thus creating a bunch of smoke in one area. But because CBR has so many DSA's there are only a few people using them at any given time. When we were there, the most people I ever saw in the DSA's were about three. And that was either in the morning or evening. One day we spent the day at the resort and I never saw anyone else in the DSA's untill nighttime. Hope this helps! Krissy |

Yea I mean smoke isnt going to find its way into your room. As someone said it may look close on the maps but, it isnt.. I dont remember anyone even smoking at all around there...

Just back from CBR
We just returned from this resort and found it very clean and open. We were in Trinidad North and we faced a courtyard. I have sensitivity to smoke and we never smelled any or had any smoke related problems. We usually stay at a Deluxe but economic times changed our plans and we were happily suprised when we arrived. I would pay the extra for a prefered room, it was a long walk to the food court.
Enjoy!

The courtyards are smoking areas at CBR. Trinidad North is a preferred location.

We stayed at CBR in May 07, a month before Disney went non smoking. We were in Jamaica 45 facing the courtyard and never smelled smoke at all. We actually hardly ever saw anyone smoking. Even if someone is smoking, it won't travel in your room.

We stayed at WLVillas and sadly, everday we walked by the smoking area, we got a wiff of it. I think it depends on how many are smoking and the wind!

I am not a smoker, but I find this thread really ridiculous. I mean, come on! Smokers have it tough enough. Will you also be requesting that the captain of the boat turn off the engine so you don't have to smell exhaust? Or the tiki lights that have a smell like lighter fluid? Or, how about Florida's wonderful sulfur water that is used for watering lawns? That smells like a colossal fart. Or maybe someone near you will have sauerkraut on their hot dog. Perhaps that is an offensive smell too. The smokers will be outside. You will be inside. Unless you leave your door open, and the wind blows just right, you shouldn't have a worry. Bad smells are a part of life. They are what make good smells so pleasant!

The OP's question has been answered, and this isn't the place for a debate about smoking.
