The Hawk @ Expedition:EVEREST

After a long absence, the Hawk at the "broken track" section is back.I love little touches like this in WDW attractions. Also the "steam effect" on the trains is back.

I feel stupid for asking this but what is the Hawk?

good, I hate to say it only being opened for 3 years lots of the goodies are not up and running at the sametime anymore. Waterfall, halk, steam on the trains and oh yeah the yeti. IMHO you spend 100mil to it blowsanyother coaster ride out of the water with theaming lets keep that going and keep the theaming alive just like it was during the opening year.

How long had the Hawk been out of commission? I rode EE for the first time back in March and didn't notice it. But when I rode EE last week I noticed him...was I just not looking before?

I told my husband that Hawk hadn't been there before and we had never noticed the waterfall. He said I was crazy and that stuff had always been there. Now I can tell him see the DIS said so!!!

At the top of the ride, where the tracks are ripped up and broken there was, and apparently is now, a bird of some sort that appears to soar overhead before you start the plunge backwards. I haven't seen it since the first year EE was opened and we were just there 3 weeks ago. Now if only they could get the Yeti to take a swipe at us again.

But I always thought it was a white owl.

While I'm happy that they have brought back the effect, I have to say that with all of the technology available at the time they built EE, that bird is about the
saddest, low-rent, mechanical effect Disney has installed.

It's a motionless "toy bird" on a stick.

You can clearly see the stick, and the motion (when there is any) is very jerky and unnatural.

Come on, Imagineers!
The very FIRST publicly-seen AudioAnimatronics ever installed by Disney were BIRDS (the Tiki Room)
and THEY'VE looked pretty realistic since the 1960's!

(Now, how about that YETI!)

Agreed. An attraction centered around a giant yeti... and the yeti is broken and doesn't move.... is pretty substandard.

It's not an owl, if anything it's a condor or an eagle. I'm not a bird expert but I think those types of birds fly around mountain tops.

By the way, here is a recent picture posted by The Walt Disney World News Today team.

I know I've seen it in the past, but the most recent picture I have (taken in May 2008) shows it not being there.

The picture I posted was taken 2-3 days ago. It's very recent.

I'm going to WDW in 17 days hopefully it's working and I can take a picture.

This effect, the waterfall, and the steam from the back of the train are not new. They were there when EE opened up. They just don't work all the time.

Now if they could get the Yeti fixed back to "A" mode. That would be great.
