Would you take this free cruise if you had to leave your little ones?

I got a call from a dear friend who lives in Texas ( I live in Arizona ). She is going on a ladies only cruise with a bunch of her friends. The gal who set up the cruise for the girls is in the airline business (as am I) and she was able to get a discount for everyone. She has since had something come up and can't make it. If she doesn't come on the cruise everyone loses about $150 each so my friend wanted to know if I would take her place since I can also get the discount. My part of the cruise would be fully paid for including a shore excursion since I am taking her place and she is paid up. This is with the girls blessing as she feels like she would have to pay everyone's discount to make it right. I'm not debating the ethics of whether she should pay or not, that's a whole other discussion. I just can't decide if I'm capable of leaving my kids for 5 days. My dd is 7 and my son will be 2 on New Years Eve. Especially since this isn't a trip with my dh or a group of my close friends. I worry that I'd miss them more then it would be worth. On the other hand, I never do anything like this. I feel bad leaving dh for an evening and going out with a friend. So I wonder if it would be good for me? Plus, this is a free cruise...in a way I'm thinking am I crazy for not going?

Any thoughts?

I would go in a heartbeat. Time away from the kiddos is always good; it allows you to appreciate them more when you get back

Hmmmm, relaxing vacation with the girls (basically for free) , knowing full well that the kids and DH are all fine .... OR staying home and wishing you would have gone .....

hmmmm, no brainer. Go! When will you have this chance again????

You did say that one gal is a dear friend. Do you trust her judgement in friends? If so, you'll probably gain a bunch of new friends!

As long as there is someone you trust to watch your children and your husband doesn't object, I'd definitely go. A little alone time is good for you. A week apart won't hurt your children and they may enjoy the extra alone time with your spouse, grandparents, etc (whoever you get to watch the kids).

It sounds like you would actually be doing the person a favor (from their perspective), so think of it as your good deed for the week :-)

Heck yeah, in a heartbeat! It could be a great opportunity to meet new people, and you'll come back all refreshed and relaxed. I think my DH would be pushing me out the door.

My boss (female) just took our office to Hawaii for a dental conference. Out of 6 of us, two didn't go. I couldn't leave my family for 12 days!!! I know, stupid! The other girl was afraid of flying, so she didn't go either. The longest my DD who just turned 14 has only been away from us was for 4 days (church camp) one time, she did fine...mom and dad were kinda lost!

When I saw Titanic for the first time in the theater I was crying so hard I was making noises...a snorting/hiccuping sound.

If you have your husband's blessing and support, I think you should go. Sounds like you have a very capable family. Yes, they will miss you and yes, you will miss them. However, it's probably a good lesson for your kids (and you) that if you leave for a few days, everyone will be fine. Have a blast. Catch up with the girls. When you miss your family, just think of the shower of hugs and kisses you will receive upon your return and all of the wonderful stories you and your family will have to share. Good luck!

We've had fun DLR/DCA, we will miss you while we are gone. We took 14 trips from July 07-July 08 and around 16 from Jan 09-Jan 10.

As someone who has, in 20 years of marriage, only been away from my family ONCE!!! and that was for my Dad's funeral 7 years ago.....GO!!!! Not sure how long you have been married, but I wish now that I had started from the get go making sure that I took care of myself. I always felt like a "bad" mom if I went away and now it is such a habit that I can't make myself go anywhere. You don't know me, but do me a favor and go!!

My mom would be packing my bag and dropping me off at the airport curb.

She loves her granddaughter time.

I hope you get to go and have a wonderful time

I would absolutely go. The only way I would have declined an invite like this is if I had a baby under a year old at home that I was still nursing. Other than that, I would go.

just did it!!!

I just got back from cruising without "my" family. I went last minute to help out my Sis with her family, when her hubby couldn't go.
My kids are older than yours, but they missed me and I missed them too.
Like someone said before, it makes you appreciate each other a little more when you get back.
Moms deserve special time too.
Go for it!!!
