Hilton Head or AKV in May for mother daughter trip

I am debating which place to take my Mom. I currently have reservations at HH but might go to AKV. My Mom is 78 and does great. Recently lost her 2nd husband and would like to take her on a relaxing vacation. She has been to WDW before. Just don't which one she would prefer. Though all the activites at AKV might be nice. Do they have W/C for rent at HH if I need one?

I love HH and would think it would be a nice place for a mother/daughter trip. You would be so close to Savannah and that's a great day trip. HH is such a relaxing place and there's plenty to do - or nothing to do - take your pick. I do not know about wheelchair availability at HH, so I can't help you with that. The only downside of HH would be availability. If you were wanting a studio or 1BR - there are so few, I don't know if you could get one for this May. I would guess it is a popular time of year. If you can swing points for a 2BR - you could probably reserve one of those. Also, keep in mind almost all of the villas at HH require climbing some stairs. The main building and the one next to it have elevator access - but all the other villas requre you to climb about 8 to 10 steps to get to the first floor of rooms. If mobility is an issue (since you asked about a wheelchair) you might need to specify the buildings with elevator access (bldg 11 & 12 I think)

We had our first HH trip just earlier this month and we loved it. However, if I had to chose between the two, for just me and my DM, I would pick AKV because of the animals and all of the activities. You can get a tour of Jiko, and I understand they do that at Saana, there's the cultural experience of interacting with CM's from Africa and the outside/inside viewing decks if you don't have a savannah view.

My DH and I are planning to take my Mom and her best friend down to HHI in May. My Mom loves the beach, so HH was a no brainer. Plus she and her best friend are big Paula Deen fans, so with Savannah only being an hour away, we plan to take them their for a day and to do the Paula Deen tour. From what I've read on HH, it seems to be such a nice relaxing place, that I think is perfect for a mother/daughter getaway. Good luck in choosing, I'm sure you can't go wrong with either one, and the best part is that you'll be spending time with your Mom!!
