Saling the Magic next week. Taking a few shirts and ties but do not want to pack a jacket. Am I going to be OK?

YOu will be fine. In fact, you don't even need a tie if you don't want to wear one.

No, Not really,,,

Wear what you would like, No one will say a thing...
But is it in the spirit of "formal" or even semi-formal?. No, not even close
Cheers

OK good, I thought that was the opinion. I usually dress nice so shirt and tie are part of my regular wardrobe BUT with luggage restrictions I do not want to pack a jacket.

OK, so I'm old school (or maybe I'm just old).

IMO you can get by without one on the Wonder as they only have "dress up nights" and people think they're having fine dining at TGI Fridays or Applebees. But "formal" to me on the Magic should at least include a jacket & tie for that one night. Think of it this way - if you were invited to a special event somewhere which states "formal attire" on the invitation would you really consider NOT wearing a jacket as appropriate? Of course there will be people who don't wear one on the ship. But IMHO that does not make it right.

(On our 7 n my DH wore a tux for formal night & a jacket for semi-formal).

I do see your point and that logic does seem to apply in your case. Keep in mind though, this is not an "invitation". We, as customers, are buying a vacation. DCL simply "recommends" the attire, they do not impose this. That is why they offer the casual dinner - for those, like me, that go on cruises for what they are - a cruise vacation.

On occasion I too have worn a tuxedo on formal night. But that is not my taste. I stay away from any event that is considered formal.

As for the OP, I think you get a general idea that you'll be fine.

You will be find without a jacket. Go and have fun on your cruise.

I also disagree with the invitation thing. When Disney pays for my cruise, then I will let them tell me what to wear to dinner. We like to relax on our cruise and don't feel the need to get all dressed up. We don't wear jeans or shorts but we don't worry about a tux and evening dress either.

From the DCL website:

Quote:
Dress Code:
At dinner, a dress shirt or jacket is required to be worn for men and a dress or pantsuit is required to be worn by women. No jeans allowed. At brunch and high tea, attire is cruise casual, meaning no shorts, jeans, swimwear or tank tops.

So my hubby won't be the only one wearing a tux on formal night, though, right? We also have a tux for my son who'll be turning 9, and was going to have him wear it, also...
