I Spoiled DD15 Rotten Tonight

My daughter - a sophmore in high school - is in her school play this weekend. She and her friends - all in the play - are planning a slumber party at another girl's house after the show/cast dinner. DD15 was tearing the video cabinet apart looking for a movie before she left - Hercules. She called me from school and said she was going onstage soon but it would be really great if I could possibly find Hercules and maybe bring it to her.

I looked halfheartedly but I was not in the mood to really search, plus I really think my older daughter took it back to school with her (we are a Hercules-loving family!!) so I got in the car, drove to Target, spent thirteen bucks on a new copy, then drove out to school and put it in her bag backstage.

Yep, I'm winning Mother of the Year!!

Frankly, I was so glad they wanted to watch a Disney movie instead of soft core porn or one of the Saw movies!!

Also, there was an intense situation with another student this week and the student body has been deeply affected - some girlfriend spend the night/Disney movie marathon is exactly what the doctor ordered...

She just called between scenes to tell me another place to look - boy, they must really want to watch Hercules tonight!!

I said, "Look in your bag."

She did and said, "OMG, MOM!!!!! Did you bring it to me? OMG, MOM!!! Did you go buy a new one? I can't believe you did that!!!"

Needless to say, she LOVES me and I am the BEST MOM EVER!!!

Haha - until tomorrow, when the play is over and I make her clean her room...

Nice work Mom!

My DS is also on stage tonight. I hate not being there. I saw it last night but due to content DD 9 cannot go so DH and I are trading off.

What show are they doing?

That was very thoughtful of you. For a little over the price of admission for 1 to go to the theatre, you brought long-term enjoyment instead.

You are awesome!!

To the PP that asked, when I was in school play .. it was several nights in a row and my parents only attended opening night . No need to be there every night .

It's a question.
My son is in school plays and I attend performances, maybe he is to young for parties but you don't need to be rude.
Nothing to do with parenting skills, just a question.
Holy Crap, maybe no one should comment

I didn't think it was judging, I was wondering the same thing.

I think its great that you got her the movie, OP. Sounds like whatever is going on at school warrants some innocent Disney movie watching and good girlfriend bonding.

You did a very nice thing.

I was also in plays in high school, and my parents would only attend ONE performance (usually opening night). I would never expect them to come to all performances. They did miss ONE of my shows...but that was because they were in a serious car accident on the way to see me. Thank God they were eventually okay, but it was a very difficult night for me at the time.

lol - I knew that would come up!!

I went opening night and I'm going tomorrow to the clsoing matinee. I bought tickets for last night and tonight but I didn't want to see it four days in a row. Sue me.

Last year the play was Les Miz and it was fabulous - I could have watched it every night for months. This year the show is Thoroughly Modern Millie and although I love watching the talent of the kids, it's not my favorite show. That white slavery theme just doesn't resonate in modern times, kwim??

DD has a smallish to medium size part - I thought she was adorable and she didn't blow any lines, so we are all happy campers.

I was in drama in High School and some parents would go to every performance (we usually did a Thursday and Friday night and then a Saturday matinee and Saturday night) and some would only go to one. My mom only came to one each show. I don't feel angry at her for that.
