Is there any way I can get money somewhere for my broken Roomba, toaster oven that is no longer needed, Portable DVD player that looks like new but doesn't work....etc. I HATE throwing stuff out!

Craigslist for stuff that works, freecycle for stuff that doesn't

Why would anyone want your broken stuff? If it doesn't work, chunk it! Otherwise, it will all end up in the garage or basement of one of those people that always say they'll find a use for it but never do. The someday their kids will inherit all of it and they'll have to deal with it. Don't contribute to that - break the cycle!

Even if it was expensive and still looks like new, broken is broken--throw it out or go to one of those electronics recycling things. If I had a Lenox lamp and it worked I'd sell it if it was pieces of a lamp I would chuck it--essentially it is the same concept.

I disagree - try ebay. Those expensive items have parts that still work - and people buy them all the time for that purpose.

I sold my broken I-pod on ebay. I advertised it as broken, I even pictured it in pieces (we tried to replace the battery and broke a cord). Someone paid me $30. I was curious so I sent an email to find out why he wanted broken electronics. This guy said he refurbishes them and resells them.

So some broken junk has value....

Thats what I was thinking...I figured someone has to know how to fix this stuff! Maybe I will do Ebay. I will just have to figure out how much shipping will be and then even if I start it at a dollar...I will be ahead at least a dollar!

Not necessarily, after fees....I recommend trying CL first.

I also would recommend checking out what those type items are going for on Ebay. I have sold a couple broken digital cameras that I was set to toss in the trash. One went for about $25 and the other close to $40. Like other said, they are going to people who want to refurbish them or use them for parts.

Adorama.com also buys cameras and if I recall correctly they may even pay shipping both ways (in case you don't like the price they offer.) And according to the photography board they are reputable.

Yep, CL it! You might not get as much right off the top as Ebay - but you'll save yourself the hassle of Ebay! Good luck - people will buy anything!

Try ebay.

My DH buys broken electronics on there all the time, fixes them and re-sells them for massive profits (and most of the time it takes minimal parts & time to fix!). Someone out there might be looking for a broken roomba or dvd player.

Craigslist for the toaster though.
