pirate room at CBR or standard room at POR? Help me shut my DH up...

So CBR is our fave resort. By a mile. However, all they have available right now for our time frame is the pirate rooms, which works out to be $270/more/week. I have NO desire to stay in them. My kids would love it, but everytime (4 or 5) we have stayed at CBR we have been in Trin. South and I really want to try a different village this time.

So, they have standard rooms available at POR for the time frame. DH isn't thrilled (to say the least). We have stayed there before, and liked it just fine. But we didn't get the "relaxing vibe" we get from CBR.

Right now I am booked standard at POR. He is whining like a school girl. Are the pirate rooms REALLY worth almost $300 more? I like the looks of the beds and the floor, but the room divider curtain (which I know my kids would be terrified of) and the barrels really turn me off.

What to do. Save money or shut DH up???

What do you think my chances of a standard CBR coming up (with the 4/3 code) are?

Sorry to ramble. I don't understand why DH can't just be happy - we upgraded to a moderate from Pop. Does it REALLY matter which one???

Men....

Try calling in and find out if you can get the 4/3 deal for CBR. We did, and got the deal for a standard room with the 4/3 deal. It never hurts to ask!

Yes keep checking each day. Somebody will probably cancel before your trip.

I would suggest going with Port Orleans. You save some money, and stay somewhere you like. Either way, your at Disney!

I would keep trying for CBR if that is where you are happiest.

we just came back (two long weeks ago) from our stay at CBR....love it!!! We were in Jamaica. Originally we booked the pirate room but towards trip time couldn't see spending the extra money just to have a room for my luggage. We are an out early and back late family. Jamaica was great...Nemo room and perfect. We are going back in 84 days, for my 40th bday and having booked riverside and looking to change it. The picture on allearsnet just didn't light my fancy nor my husbands. My son could care less were we stay as long as its on property. Keep trying CBR...I am sure you will get a room that place is huge. We are probably going to switch to coronado.

Anyways, enjoy your vacation no matter what resort you are at.

Did you look at the CSR?

I am not a fan of moderates, I've had a few awful stays, so I usually stick with deluxes.
For me PO was one of the worst ever. We still talk about how bad it was for us.
(To be fair we picked the wrong week. Lots of familys with more people in the room then should be allowed.)

I stayed at the CSR for $ reasons during the food and wine festival and I was really impressed, something that I rarely am with Disney hotels.

Sorry, but I totally get your husband's point of view.

The pirate rooms should be $25 more a night, plus tax. We are staying in them next month since I showed pictures of all the resorts to my girls, (3 and 8) and they were only excited about CBR or possibly AKL. They have stayed at Movies and Music and loved those but we are ready for a change. My 3 year old is particularly excited about the pirate rooms. Neither child had an iota of interest in either of the PO resorts. I was concerned about the curtain in the pirate room and talked about this with my 3 year old. I showed her pictures, very clear pictures of the curtain and she said it was scary but she liked it. I told her I would rather stay in the Nemo room (although I really didn't care either way) to feel out her response but both of them are all excited about the pirate room. I've shown them both lots of pictures of both the Nemo and Pirate rooms. I have to say that I am not thrilled about my rug looking like wood planks myself but the room will definitely have a Disney feel which we all love. Have you shown pics of both resorts to your kids?

We are so excited about our stay in the pirate rooms.

I just noticed on your post it says you are taking your babysitter and her sister... so that means you are getting two rooms? Or was that a different trip?

I agree. I was at CSR for the Food & Wine Festival also and loved it. They have a great main pool with a longer slide than the ones at either PORS or CBR. They have a very nice large children's playground. They have the biggest hot tub on property, newly remodeled rooms with queen size beds, nice sliding wooden doors that separate the vanity area from the bed room, white sand beaches with hammocks, nice gift shop, and the best bus service on property. Plus their bus stops are all really close to the park gates (first stop at MK and DS, second stop at Epcot and in the middle at AK). They have a lounge, Cafe Rix, Pepper Market, and Maya Grill and alot of very nice tables and booths outside the main building overlooking the lake if you want to eat outside.

Yeah, we are getting 2 rooms, which is why its so much more (taking our nanny and her sister).

We have stayed at CSR in the past and though its a beautiful resort, we really hated a lot of things about it, so DH (and to be honest, me, too) won't consider it.

I just reallllllly don't want to be in Trin South again. Now I am whining, lol! I am looking at pics of POR trying to get myself excited for it, but its hard. I think if we were going in spring/summer/fall, I would be able to. But coming from COLD, dreary, snowy, blah MN in the winter - I want palm trees and the Caribbean feel. I just am too cheap to shell out the money for the pirate room.

It's not a bad life when these are the decisions you need to make, huh?

Thanks guys!
