Possible First Time Cruiser - ? before I make final decision
Hi DCL experts!
I've never been on a cruise, and I think 2011 might be the year to change that. I have 2 questions about booking on the Dream. 1. I understand there is a deposit that is refundable up to final payment date. I plan on making payments every month. If I do that, and have to cancel, do I get all the money back that I have paid towards the trip? 2. Right now I'm solo. If I put my deposit in, and then find someone special to go with me, is it possible to add another person to my stateroom? (I understand they would probably have to pay whatever the rate is at the time and wouldn't get the benefit of booking early.) TIA! |

1. Yes, you will get any and all payments back.
2. Sometimes you can add a second person. What I do is to book a second person as "to be determined." I can cancel that person up to the final payment date, but of course will have to pay the single supplement if I do that. By booking a second person, I have held a place in the lifeboat and know that I can add whomever later. If I don't do that, I can be told later that there is no room at the muster station and therefore I can't add. The single supplement is 75% of the "cruise fare" portion of the ticket--the price without the taxes and port charges. The net result is that a second person costs very little more than one person sailing alone! If you book yourself and "to be determined," and then cancel the "tbd" anything you have paid toward that person can just be rolled over toward your amount. Just be sure that you make the change before the final payment date. You can CHANGE a name up to 31 days before sailing with no penalty, but you can't cancel one. So, if you wait beyond the final payment date, you'll pay for 2 even if only one sails! |
