Thank you magnet gifters
My family and I just wanted to give a BIG thank you to all of the kind people who gifted us with new magnets after our door was wiped clean. We were on the 10/10 St. Croix cruise and on Castaway Cay day, my daughter left the room for ten minutes to go downstairs to book the snorkeling gear. When she returned, ALL but two mickey ear magnets were gone. Our whole door was decorated and in 8 cruises, this is the very first time that has ever happened. Luckily, except for my Eeyore magnet, all of the other ones were duplicates.
I was so mad I left a note to the "thief" and in return was rewarded with kind notes and magnets. Funny, we had nothing on our door to identify us with the Disboards, but a couple of the notes referred to my being a Disboard member. Not sure how they knew, but the gift fairies are like that ya know! You especially made my daughter happy and she left a thank you note on the door for those who were so generous. |

Are you kidding? Who would do such a thing? that is terrible..I am sorry that happened. I know those magnets take a ton of work. On the upside your disboard friends came through and that just goes to show the camaraderie on the board!

That is TERRIBLE! I have read of others getting magnets and fish extenders stolen. So, for on our first cruise I making our magnets, posting new ones daily, with the intent of giving them away to our cabin neighbors. That way if our magnets get stolen, it is ok. I am glad to read fellow DISers came thru so this didn't damper your cruise.

what a bummer. We had no problems with Magnets disappearing, but halfway through the cruise we got additional DVC members Welcome Home magnets added to our door. I am not sure where they came from. I figured it was from Kids that saw them on another door and decided to add them to ours. My the end of the cruise we ended up with 3 additional DVC members magnets. I wish I new what room they came from so I could have put them back.

Our favorite magnet we took on board was a laminated cover of the DVC welcome home packet you get at every time you check into a DVC resort. We ended up putting it on the DVC presentation room door when we rotated out our magnets. Michael

I can only imagine that this is being done by unsupervised tweens/teens. And it really upsets me...no respect any more. I know if I had stolen anything, even "just" a magnet off someone's door when I was younger, my mom would have had my butt!!!
So...I'm sorry that yours were stolen but it gives me the warm fuzzies to hear about the kindness the others showed!

I was thinking, the ones I don't want to lose putting our name, signature or room # on them to try to keep this from happening. It was great that fellow cruiser came to the rescue.

I agree the best is to not become too attached and to make sure your name and room number are on the magnet. See these kids seem to know if the name and room number are on the magnet that they might get caught and they don't want to get caught. DISER are the best and I am not surprised that the missing door magnets were replaced with new ones from your fellow DISER.

My sister and I had adjoining rooms and a ton of magnets. To make a long story short..one night on my way back to the room there was a group of teenagers in front of me (3 boys 2 girls) they stopped right in front of my door and said "how about this one" I said very loudly " that is my door!" They said "oh, sorry" and kept on walking but they stopped about 10 feet from me and were just hanging out there. I told our room steward. He said "do you guys need something, or are you lost?" they mumbled "no, we are just leaving" and went and sat on the stairs in front of the elevator. ![]() What if I hadn't been there? I did forget to pack the zip tie for the fish extender. I brought it in at night. I stopped by the dive shop in St Croix and they gave me one. Our cabin was 2102. How can stealing be fun?? ![]() I am glad your fellow cruisers helped you out. Disers are the best!!! ![]() ![]() |

On our Disney cruise last January, someone stole our whole entire fish extender and all the goodies inside of it. And our f/e has our name on it. A bunch of our magnets were also stolen. We were very upset and reported it to Guest Services.
To make a long story short, we ended up getting our fish extender back. Guest services alerted the stateroom attendants that there were 'thieves' on the ship and they kept a lookout. They wouldnt tell us how they got it back or where they found it, but we were so impressed with how Disney went above and beyond to get it back for us. We didnt get any of the goodies that were inside or our magnets but at least we got our f/e back that we had specially made for us. My advice: ZIP TIE YOUR F/E TO YOUR FISH!!! Happy cruising!

We always bring string/twine and my husband ties the fish extender so that no one can get it off without scissors. I have had our fish extender used as a trash can though!
No, we didn't have our name or room number on our magnets -- but definitely a lesson learned for next time (which won't be until 2011 anyway -- we don't plan on decorating our room on Holland America next year ).My daughter (who is 22 now) is always amazed by the boredom shown by tweens and teens and young adults. On the 2005 PC there were hoards of teens sitting in the stairways talking about how bored they were and why did their parents make them come! She was flabbergasted. She sees any opportunity to cruise and see new places as a blessing and a learning experience. Of course, she's been travelling with us since she was 10-months ![]() Thank you for all your kind thoughts. |
