What if our flight gets delayed or cancelled?

Due to bad weather? I never thought about this when I booked it but we're going end of Jan/Feb from Minnesota. What happens if they delay our flight due to weather or cancel it all together? Then what? Will ME still pick us up later or will the resort hold our rooms if we end up a day late? I already paid for our package in full. I just realized this could happen and of course it would happen to us!!!! We're flying Northwest.

Back in 2000 this happened to DH (then BF) and I. We were only going for a weekend, so by the time O'Hare said they'd get us out, we had to be home. We got refunds on everything. Air and hotel.

In 2004, we were flying AirTran at spring break. We had a connection that we missed in Atlanta. We rented a one-way car and drove all night. So, we lost a night at WL. But when our room was ready later in the day, our CM must have upgraded us to a pool/courtyard view on the 5th floor. We either looked really pathetic when we rolled in at 8 AM or she figured since we lost one night, why not make it up to us. And we sort of told her what happened, but didn't make a big deal. We did not ask for our money back on the lost night (that I remember).

As frustrating and on-the-verge as you will feel (as I did that night in ATL), keep your calm. You'll be more likely to get refunds or exchanges.

Don't know your answer on ME.

I didn't buy the insurance for our package either. I wonder what happens if we miss a day due to our flight being cancelled? Would they reimburse us or would we just have to take the loss on our resort and park tickets?

You aren't booked on a specific DME bus (when arriving at MCO), so you'd just get the bus when you got there. If you are going to be arriving late at night (when there aren't many scheduled flights), I'd probably give them a call just to let them know.

I'd also call the resort, so that they don't think that you are a no-show and that they hold your room for you.

If it is a weather delay, any reimbursements would be through your trip insurance.

I know DME will not be a problem. You have a reservation with them and you have a reservation at Disney. You can arrive at the DME desk by any means at any time after your reservation with Disney begins.

I do vaguely remember making a phone call when we started driving from ATL. It may have been to WL.

We did not have any trip insurance in Feb. 2000. But we're talking major snow. We may have been stuck with travel vouchers, but we took the trip in June 2000 instead, so we used the vouchers, if that's what happened.

But did the airline refund your hotel money?

If you haven't pre-paid the hotel you are fine (assuming you call the hotel before they put you down as a no-show). However, the OP has pre-paid for a package stands to lose out on that without trip insurance (though, of course, there are cases where exceptions are made).

I wouldn't count on them reimbursing your room & tickets. I would suggest buying the insurance. The airline also is not responsible if your flight does not leave Orlando on your departure day due to weather, you would be responsible for paying for a hotel. Insurance may also cover that (check the coverages when you buy it).

Sorry, I didn't read it as a whole package. We don't work in packages, we usually do everything a la carte. I misunderstood.
