Keeping kids from opening sliding glass doors in resort room.

I know this probably makes me sound like the most neurotic parent on the planet, but we're staying at Villas at Animal Kingdom Lodge in December and I'm a little worried about my two year old twins (who, frankly, appear to be descended from Houdini because they can open anything they can reach) trying to open the sliding glass doors in the room. Can any of you tell me if there are locks up higher than the door handle? I think I remember there being a latch high up on the ones at the Grand Floridian, but I'm not sure.

Thanks.

You're not the most neurotic parent on the planet, because I wonder the same thing. but mine are 9, 6 and 4 at the time we go, and I'm sure that one of them is going to mess with the door at the same time, so I'm checking this one out too to see the answer.

Good to know I'm not the only one. I'm considering buying a cheap lock made especially for these type of doors.

I have an autistic son who I totally do NOT trust to not open the doors and then fall from a balcony....

Our last trip I purchased these online... Kid-Co baby locks for sliding glass doors.
Just peel back the paper, they have adhesive on them and stick them on the door. Pretty easy, and they came off easily when time to check out.
I put them pretty high up so he couldn't go and try to pull them off.

Which reminds me... I need to order more for next trip!

Every room I've stayed in at the AKL have had a lock that a 2y/o child would not be able to reach. If they grabbed a chair, climb up they might be able to but by then you would be able to put a stop to it.

I understand also where you are with this. I am not sure if this will work or not but we use a shower rod that extends when twisted at the house on our sliding glass doors, you might need to make sure it extends long enough if you use something like this though. I guess ours is about 3-4 foot, I believe I will take it with us when we go back to avoid the problems you are thinking of.

You can put these up all the way near the top where a small child cant reach it

I'm not sure about the locks at Jambo House, but the ones at Kidani require an engineering degree to figure out how to open them. (Either that, or I'm really dumb...)

It always takes me a minute to figure out the correct combination to get both locks to open at the same time. I can't imagine a little one being able to get them open.

I noticed that you are staying in the Villas, but we stayed in the Jambo House back in January and I also have a 2, now 3 yr old, who can figure anything out also! He was not able to open the glass sliding door. I hope this helps a little.

Thanks everyone. They've surprised me before by doing something I didn't think they could do, so I am going to be extra careful. I think it's probably the case that the locks are up pretty high and are complicated, but just to be sure, I'm going to take Stich's advice and order some of those locks.

Again, thanks.

You are not neurotic. I have a 5 yr old who does this, and because of it I requested a higher floor of the BCV for December. She likes to go outside and look around...not good when you are in the bathroom and think that she will be watching tv or playing quietly and she is on the path to ePCOT

Oh good lord! Those doors open so easily. When my oldest was two-years old we went to DC and didn't think twice about the room being childproofed. We turned around and and in seconds he was out the door. He'd never done anything like that before.

I just went to Babies R Us (thought I was done with that place) and bought a couple of things. Hopefully it will give us a bit of peace of mind.

Thanks for the info on AKL... we are staying at Jambo house with a 2 year old too and I was a little worried because he loves to open everything. Of course I will also have to watch my 6 and 4 year old!
