November is Adoption Awareness Month

There are tons of kids in the foster care system waiting to be adopted all the time. They would love a "forever home".

On the flip side, there are also a lot of families hoping to adopt and create a family. There are not enough infants for all the families that are seeking this form of adoption. Our local Catholic Charities is no longer accepting applicants. They have 40 families waiting for children.

If you or someone you know is facing an unwanted pregancy, please consider making and adoption plan.

If you can find it in your heart to consider adopting a child, any child, you will be loved forever!

Ask me, I am an adoptive parent!

I am so glad to see people reading this post!

Later this month, we will be doing some work with a local church and their adoption ministry and we will be interviewed by our local paper to help get the word out.

It is so important. These kids need families and there are so many couples out there wanting babies and children.

My mother was adopted and my two sisters are adopted. I like to joke that adoption runs in our family.

Great idea to bring adoption awareness to our attention. I ask God's blessings be upon all of those involved in adoption, particularly the birth mothers, who whether through choice or circumstances, make an enormous sacrifice.

Thanks for this!

Adpotion, wow, it's so easy to forget ds is adopted....

This morning the dog came zooming out of ds's room with ds's pants in his mouth, then of course came ds in his boxers chasing after him, laughing and tumbling on the floor with him.

Dh is getting his breakfast but we're out of milk for cereal and syrup for waffles so he's asking me if he can feed him cupcakes and a juice box.

I'm trying to find his list of spelling words he has to know today, so laughing, I say, "sure we can bribe him to study with chocolate cake after he eats a ham sandwhich". Dh rolls his eyes and pulls out the mustard.

I give them hugs and kisses, run out the door and dh follows me out with my cell phone I forgot and he says, "how did we get here?"

I laughed and said "I have no idea", but now I'm reminded...

how we went down a long dark infertility road for a few years, took some parenting classes, cleaned our house with a toothbrush, got a license, brought home a beautiful 2yr old little boy, traded the convertible for an suv, spent 4 years going to court hearings, finally got the piece of paper saying we're his parents and turned down another dark road to learn he has Epilepsy (it's Epilepsy Awareness month also, guess November is our month) found a good neurologist, got him on meds, and now we're cruising along in the sun enjoying weekends at the lake, trips to Disney and mornings of laughter and chaos.

Life is Good, Adoption makes it Great!!!

It's been 11 months since our son came into our lives and I just can't imagine life without him. No foster care system where I live and the adoption process is really a nightmare, but once your child is home you forget about all that.

Wow, it must be a sign that I found this post this morning. DH and I have two bio kids, but I've never felt like our family was complete. We've been researching international adoption, but have never quite made the leap. Just yesterday I started looking into fostering or adopting from the foster system. To be quite honest, the only thing holding me back is I'm not sure I can take the heartbreak of seeing a foster child go back into a less than ideal bio family situation.

And this may seem like a foolish question, but it's actually something we need to consider...are you allowed to travel out of state with foster children? We don't have many luxuries, but the one thing we do try to make time for and splurge on as a family is our vacations. I know it's kind of trivial, but if we were no longer able to travel while fostering, it would be another factor to consider while making this decision.

Thanks for starting this thread!

I was adopted 36 years ago this month. National Adoption Day just happens to be the day before my birthday. I plan on either fostering or adopting or both in the near future.

Jynon, it depends on the state, but here in Oregon we just need to let the state know when we take foster kids out of the state. It's not a problem at all to take a vacation out of state.

Thumbs up for adoption! We have four adopted kids and a fifth foster that we'll have the adoption finalized in the next few months. There's some issues and hardships for sure, but it all is worthwhile. They're all smart, talented and fun kids and hubby and I are better people for having them in our lives.
