at first i was thinking, "thats just their culture" but since the age of consent is 15, it really isn't?

it isn't like this doesn't happen in the us though. (minus the marriage, most of the time)

and i really feel like i could tell a 15 year old from an 11 year old.

Oh, definitely. 11-15 is where a massive amount of puberty growth happens. There's a huge difference between a 11 year old and someone who is 15.

It is their culture. Romas = Gypsies.

It might be their culture but there is no way an 11 year old is even slightly mature enough to handle raising a child. Not that it doesn't happen, don't get me wrong, but statements like this:
"I'm not going to play with toys anymore - I have a new toy now," Kordeza told reporters as she showed off little Violeta

make me just shake my head.

" I was awash with the recollection of indelible nights where the sky was blown open by fireworks and big band sounds drifted through trees strung with fairy lights. I think it's really sad that this little girl has to grow up so soon... And I'm sorry, but there is no way you can mistake an 11 year old girl (JUST TURNED 11, at that) for a 15 year old girl. I hadn't even started my period when I was 11. Seriously, my heart goes out to this poor child. And yes, she is a child.

I'm not even a prudish person. I don't think you should have to be married and everything when you have sex, and I don't think badly of teens who have children (I feel bad for them, but I'm not going to look down on them or judge them for it). But this... this really truly appalls me. I just feel so bad for this poor girl.

Just because it happens alot doesn't mean its okay by any means.

And the dad is 19? That's just creepy! What kind of man would want to date and have sex with an 11 year old.. other than pedophiles.

I know other countries and other religions do things differently.. but some I just can't help but shake my head at.

Quote:
"It's normal for our girls to have babies young," said Kordeza's grandmother Dida, 55. "It's our tradition. But I didn't want it for my Kordeza - I felt she was too young."
Even though the grandmother, who had probably lived there her entire life thought the girl was to young, EVEN though it was tradition and normal in that country. So no matter where you live.. in your elders eyes you're always going to be their little girl or boy.

It makes me want to give the "mom" a hug. That statement just makes it so obvious how little of a girl she is. =[

i agree, but even in the united states, shotgun weddings are still a regular practice in many areas.

What you're forgetting is that since she was able to get pregnant, she was post-pubescent. Not all 11 year old girls look like 11 year old girls.

I went to school with a girl who got pregnant when she was 11. She didn't look like any 11 year old I've ever seen. She didn't exactly look like and adult, but she didn't look like a kid either.

I'm not condoning it, I'm just saying that not every 11 year old girl looks like an 11 year old girl.

This is her: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worl...dding-day.html
and yes, based on that photo, I do think she could pass for 15. YMMV.

Just because something is illegal, it doesn't mean tradition will stop. There are tons of things that are illegal, but for some people those things are illegal. What's done is done. Yes, the guy should be reprimanded legally, but if they're going to punish him they should also punish the thousands of other gypsies. Why this father, why now? Majority rules, if you're going to punish one you gotta punish all. JMO.

i think she could pass for 15 now, but i'm curious as to how she looked before she got pregnant. (before the baby weight/larger breasts)

Wow, she definitely does not look like 11. But I guess every girl develops differently. I wasn't that well endowed at that age.

Wow.
11 and 19, where were the parents in this?
Glad the baby is healthy, though.
