SWW and joining in Que

Get out the meat, the flames are going to be hot!

SWW, we can only go on Saturday and only want to see characters on that day. DH and DS can be line person to see characters.

Is it ok for me to take smaller, SN-DS and keep him busy and then join up as line person gets close to front? Again, we are not a huge family, but DS can't wait in lines for any extended period of time.

I say yes but many will say no. Why not all get in line togeather then when you leave the line let the group or 2 behind you know you will be back.

Great idea, Perhaps just letting them know that DS is SN will make them more understanding to our circumstances.

I would rather teach others about ASD when given a chance.

We did this with my 2-year-old in June. I think the character lines are a little different from ride lines, which snake around and go in buildings. The lines we did this for were all straight lines out in the open where we didn't have to push past anyone, and no on seemed to have a problem with it. We all saw the characters at the same time, so we weren't adding to anyone's wait behind us.

gosh I'm feeling exceptionally dense here...I thought I had a good grasp of all the usual abbreviations, but for heavens sake - these are new to me!

What is "SWW" and "SN-DS"...well actually I assume the DS part refers to Dear Son. But have no clue what SN-DS is?

No idea on SWW but I would assume SN is special needs. We do sometimes split up for the lines DD has autism so sometimes she just cannot handle it, especially if it in the sun.

I say as long as you're all taking the photo together then that's fine. IF you're trying to get each child alone with each character not so much.

Thanks! Should have known -- two out of three sisters are Spec. Ed teachers! Feeling quite Homer-ish...Doh!

And after looking at OP's ticker, I figured out what SWW is...Star Wars Weekend. Which is late May-June at Hollywood Studios.

I won't be there for SWW, but if I were, you wouldn't have to worry about me being upset about it. Obviously you know how some people can be about it because of the quote above. I doubt you'll have too many problems in character lines. More likely problems if you were to try to head through to the front of a ride line queue where you have to pass a bunch of individuals on your way to meet up with the others.

Personally, I don't really care if anyone does this for character lines SN or not, it doesn't bother me. They're hardly ever ridiculously long and through my own personal experience, the amount of people in the party has very little affect on the time characters spend with the party. I've seen them spend seconds with a huge family then spend a good 5 minutes with my party of 2.

Now, I would feel differently about a ride queue but a character queue, no flames from me

When we were there in early October, there were several times that SN kids were moved to the front of the line, which was fine with me. I am a teacher so I truly appreciate the accomedations. This may not be procedure, but I know it happened to us at least 3 times.

I am so happy to read positive answers! I really expected the worst.
DS-Dear Son
SN-Special Needs
SWW-Star Wars Weekend so give that girl a gold star, you all did super.

We were at MNSSHP and had DS waiting in line for us to see Cruela. He was about 2 people back and we went to join him. There was a lady near the end screaming at me and to everyone that I cut in line. I was mortified. DS had waited a long time for us and there was no way other little DS could have waited. But this lady kept screaming at me that I cut in line. I finally went back to her and told her that DS just waited for us, like she was, and that other DS has ASD, thank you much, enjoy your evening.

ASD-Autism spectrum disorder

So I just wondered so that we don't offend. Of course we want our pictures as 1 single family and we try to move DS along so others can have too.

Have you done SWW before? It is my understanding that if you want autographs, you need to get a FP as soon as the park opens to be guaranteed one. That's another line, but perhaps someone else knows if all of you have to stand in it or just one person with everyone's KTTW cards like other FPs.

Normal character meet and greets you probably would not have any problems, but with SWW, I think you need to be prepared to have someone act like the lady at MNSSHP. Don't let them ruin your day! You know what you need to do for your child, and if they can't or won't understand that, it is not your problem.

OOOHhhh, Sharon, you are a person in the know.

We do want to see specific characters from Star Wars and get pictures with our family. I didn't know we would have to get FP. Thank you for letting us know. We plan to be at the rope drop and I will send DH and older DS running to get our FP for our must see favorites.

Having a child on the spectrum does something to you. We get the looks all the time, like I am the worst mom in the world! Or they just stare because DS is melting down. I do understand because I didn't know either for the longest time. Now when I see a mom having a hard time. I offer to carry her bags to the car, or just open the door. Simple things make life so nice. Even just a smile to her. Even parents of NT have hard days too. We have all been there.

If a person wants to be a grouch at WDW that is their choice, it won't ruin my day.

Actually, you just need Fastpasses to see the celebrity actors from the movies, not to see the costumed characters. The lines for the characters are all pretty open and straight (and unfortunately in full sunlight.) Honestly last year I saw most people having one line holder while the rest waited a bit off to the side in the shade so I think you'll have no problems at all!
