Girls just wanna have fun!

My DD16 asked me today if we could have Girls Night Out tonight. She hardly ever asks for anything. Most of the time she wants to hang out with her friends--in fact, one of the reasons we bought an SUV several years ago was to accomodate all the friends that come along.

Well, tonight she didn't want the friends. She just wanted the two of us, no dad, no Christian. We went and had a great time. She put on some Broadway and we sang our hearts out. We talked about clothes. We talked about college(she's a HS junior.) We even talked a little about her cute new BF(he's the sweetest guy. I just love him!) We shopped and just had a great ol' time. Then she wanted a little ice cream, so I broke my diet to eat some with her(I've been very good for about a month now.) One the way home, more singing and laughing.

I don't know when I"ve had so much fun. I don't get to spend as much time with DD16 anymore. She's so busy with school and dance and friends. But every now and then she wants her Mommy, I guess.

She sounds like a great daughter and you sound like a great mom. It was nice of you to break your diet for a little ice cream. Everyone deserves a treat now and then.

I know exactly how you're feeling. My DD and I were pretty close while she was growing up and I absolutely treasured the time I was able to spend with her, in grade school, in high school and in college. I would drop anything I was doing if she wanted to talk. And I loved our shopping trips, etc. She even included me in her bachelorette party when she got married.

She's been married 9+ years and has two children, but she still finds time for dear old mom. She just lives a quarter mile down the road so I see her quite often, and still treasure the time we spend together.

I'm glad to hear of another mom and daughter with a close relationship. It's wonderful, isn't it?
