SAB slide

Does anyone know if there is a height requirement for the slide at SAB?

Glad you asked this... in addition, I read somewhere that you could not go down the slide in a life jacket. We have used life jackets at other disney pool slides when our oldest was younger. Is this really a rule at SAB and is it regularly enforced? Thanks.

The life jacket policy is enforced. The slide at SAB is very tall (and I mean very tall) and most of it is in an enclosed tube. So I'm thinking that the jacket could get stuck.

It dumps into water that kinda has a lot of movement to it, so the child needs to know the basics of swimming. They do allow parents to catch the kids at the bottom of the slide.

There is no height requirement on the slide.

The life jacket policy has been enforced the last 3 years we stayed there. And I was never able to catch my kids at the bottom of the slide. You can stand off to the side out of the current, but to stand right at the bottom is a no no. The child has to know how to swim a little to be able to get away from the slide over to where the parent is allowed to stand.

We stayed last summer and my son went down in his swim vest many times and the lifeguard never batted an eye. Maybe they just enforce the life jacket rule if it is a Disney life jacket. It's a great slide, but it's not for those that don't like a bit of a thrill.

Some lifeguards DO enforce the no lifejacket rule, even if it's a DIsney lifejacket. Now I know some lifeguards let it go but since it was explained to me that the lifejacket could end up being a safety problem in the enclosed slide I wouldn't feel right taking that chance.

My dgs' loved the small slide in the "pirate pool" section. It is right by the entrance to the stairs for the big slide and is a lot tamer for little ones.

If the child can swim there is no height restriction as far as I know. I would say to use your best judgement when you see the slide and the pool. The slide dumps you into a different area from where you enter the slide so it would be difficult to put your child on the slide and then make it over to where it dumps you in the pool in time. It is a great slide and can even be enjoyed by adults.

Depending on the lifeguard ,you may not be allowed down in lifejackets. In the last 3 visits I had all 3 the lifeguards would not allow lifejackets down. There is no height requirement per se, but the slide entrance is at the top of the mast on the Pirate ship moored on Crescent lake.It is partially enclosed and shoots you OVER the walkway and to a splashdown pool. They do not allow double riders and you can NOT stand at the bottom of the slide to catch anyone

As others have said, this is not correct. Parents are not asllowed to wait at the end of the big slide to catch children. In fact, the exit area for the slide is roped off. There is no loitering permitted in that area and anyone using the slide is expected to immediately swim out of the area.

Oh how true this is. When we stayed at the YC in 2007, I who can't swim decided I would try the slide. I figured how bad can it be, it's a slide. Well, let me tell you, the current at the bottom is quite swift and yes, the lifeguards will tell you, you need to move as they did with me. As madalex stated, that area is roped off and no one is allowed to stand near the bottom of the slide. As for the life jacket, I can see where that would definitely be a safety issue in the enclosed section.

Well, we were there for 8 days in august 2008 - swam two or three times a day and my kid (maybe 42 inches then?) went down the slide probably a thousand times (LOL) wearing a life jacket. Nobody batted an eye. I also stood in the catch pool and then would walk forward and grab him once he hit the water - just to expedite him getting out of the water quickly. Lifeguards were fine with it. We asked the lifeguards each day if wearing a life jacket was okay and every time, they looked at me like I was nuts and said of course.

Like I said...It varies by lifeguard, and you simply can not count on it being the case all the time

Exactly. That day I decided to use the slide, I must have gotten a life guard that was in the military. JK but he sure sounded like one. I guess I didn't move fast enough for his liking and I can definitely understand that with as fast as you come down that slide. My DS13 has mastered the art of the butt glide on top of the water as you exit the slide. I on the other hand looked like a ruptured duck.
