Wow. Just Wow...

DH and I found out that the 10 or so public health clinics in our city had the H1N1 flumist vaccine available to anyone. We decided to go this morning.

The clinic opened at 7:30 am. We arrived and got in line outside at about 7:10 am. I'd say we were about 6th in line. 5 people in front of us.

They opened the door at 7:30 am, we went in and formed a line in there. It was 45 minutes before we were able to SIGN IN. Yes, it was a 45 minute wait just to SIGN IN. I have no idea why it took that long to sign in 6 people.

We got our form, filled them out, and turned them in - all in about 2 minutes. This was at about 8:20 am.

Apparently the process is that we fill out the form, give it back, they enter the information into the computer, they give us the form back, and THEN we can get the vaccine. At about 9:30 am, we got our forms back. The form was front side only and only abut a third of it was filled out by us (name, address, etc). It took them an hour and 10 minutes to enter five lines of information into the computer. Remember, there were only about 5 people in front of us. We then immediately went back to get our vaccine. The nurses that are administering the vaccine had been there since 7:30 am (as had we) and we WERE THE FIRST to get the vaccine today. So, they weren't backed up in the vaccine area. Plus, we (the taxpayers) were paying for 2 hours time of 4 nurses to sit around and wait for the front office people to get their act together. What a complete waste.

If this is what public health care is going to be like, I'll vote HELL NO!!!! It was just absolutely nuts.

Just feel lucky you got it. They have the vaccine here on post (had it for about 2 weeks I think), but they aren't releasing it until Dec.1. That makes sense. I can't find it in the community. DD's school is going to give it ot the kids sometime "soon." Who knows when that will be.

Did it ever occur to you that it is a mess because the system is neglected?
You think voting no is the answer? Interesting.

How about fix the system. Make government WORK for you instead of against you.

You pay into this system whether you like it or not. I think it should be fixed instead of ignored.

I'm just relieved I was eligible for one and it's so good to hear they are finally distributing the much in demand H1N1! Luckily got mine in N.C. on a family trip last week-end. Walgreen's had a big blinking bill boards adv H1N1 shots. No wait, filled out paper work, got shot, pd $18, waited 10 min to see if any reaction - had none at all, no soreness or swelling at all, etc. My prayers are: there is enough for everyone who wants one, gets one soon!

I'm in Canada and had the vaccine yesterday--just wondering what the difference is with the flu mist? My DD attends school in NYC and is getting that today?

Tks!

Sounds like a day at the DMV. Another one of my favorite places.

Flu mist is a live virus, injection is a dead virus. Pros and cons with both.

I am thankful I got it. This problem is beyond going and getting a vaccination. Regardless of why the people were there, if it took 2 hours to see 7 people (2 of which, once they were seen, took all of 60 seconds to administer the vaccine) something is seriously wrong with the process or procedures.

How much taxpayer money do you think was spent on these 4 nurses that did nothing but sit around for 2 hours waiting for someone to get the vaccine?

The live virus in the flumist is a cold adapted virus. It can survive in the nasal passages (where it is colder) but it cannot survive in the lungs (where it is warmer).

Yes, the "Flumist" is a live vaccine, but modified in such a way as to not being able to cause disease.

Believe it or not, my last visit to the DMV was about a third of the time I spent at the clinic. It was run a lot better.

Hmmm.

I got my H1N1 injection vaccine yesterday here at our hospital. Took a total of 5 minutes. Walked in, read a form, signed it, got poked. That's it.

Sorry your local health department is so inefficient.

I heard that the shot is loaded with mercury but the mist is not.
