Who's done the hot-air balloon ride at DTD?
Please, tell me all about it!!
Worth the money and the wait? How long is the wait these days? I'll be going in a week and a half and I was thinking this would be a really cool way to get some new pics for the scrapbook, but I heard there's netting all around it. Does that get in the way of picture taking? thanks! |

I had never done a ballon ride before, so I was glad that I tried it. It's a little freaky at first, but after a few minutes it becomes really fun. You have to get your camera close to the netting, so the lens shoots in between the grid.
Well worth the money and lots of fun.

How much does it cost? How many people can ride? How long does the ride last?

I think it is $16 per adult and the ride last about 10 minutes or so. I think they take about 12-15 people per ride. Weather affects some elements of the ride, such as the height the ballon goes depending on the wind.

When I went in late August, there was no line. There was about 10 of us up there, including the operator guy. We went at night, which is why there might have been no line. Our pictures came out blurry since it was nighttime and I didn't have the good camera with me. I'm not going to lie, I was scared. By the time I was just getting used to it, it was time to go back down. My mom, who is scared of Soarin' (
) loved it and would do it again in a heartbeat. Next year, I'll probably do it again. It was worth it, it was cool seeing everything from that high up.

Yeah, it was fun. Something different, but probably only a one-time thing for me. I went at the end of August in the middle of the day (around 3pm) and there was no line. Neat to see all four icons for the parks as well as the entire DTD area. Give it a try

I have done it with my DH and DS & DD, It was wonderful!!! We did it at night
and the view was amazing the prices listed are what I believe we apid. Yes weather does determine just how many people are able to ride, about 12 were on ours, we waited almost and hour but well worth the wait! |

We went in Sept. No Line. It was just my husband and I up in the balloon with the captain. It is pretty cool. It is 16 per person. If you save your receipt, you can go back at night for 13 dollars.

I went in June of 09'...We had to go back to DTD every day because every time we tried to ride it was closed due to "thunder and lightning". When we finally got to ride there was no wait. I was scared at first but it is an amazing experience and great for pictures! You can see everything from up there! I would like to go on at night since we day a day ride.

We went at the end of august there was no wait in the line. It was $16 per adult. If you zoom it in the netting doesn't get in the way but it is hard to take pictures because the wind moves the balloon side to side.

I have more logistical questions: can you walk all the way around while the balloon is in motion and/or when the balloon has reached its peak? If so is the walkway (cage) wide enough squeeze by someone if they don't want to walk around. I personally don't think $16 is unreasonable (as many people have complained) but i just want to make sure I can take clear pictures in all directions. I've been to WDW multiple times since the balloon premiered I just haven't gone over to check it out.
