checking out resorts

We are going to be going to the world in Oct of 2010, but may be in Orlando over Spring Break...Does Disney allow you to drive to their resorts, get out and walk around, etc.? What do I say to the gate person?

All of the resorts are open to the public and welcome visitors. You can walk around and explore, shop, dine, and even use recreational facilities like boat or bike rentals. The only thing that the resorts don't allow visitors to do is use the pools.

Some of the deluxe resorts near theme parks will issue a 3-hour parking pass so that visitors won't use their parking lots to avoid paying for parking at the theme parks.

Just tell the guard that you'd like to check out the resort. They'll ask you to show a photo ID, and then they'll let you right in.

It is my understanding that AKL will only let you on their property if you have a room or meal reservation. This is due to people wanting to "just come see the animals".

Can anyone please confirm or deny?!?!?

That was the case when the resort first opened, but not any more. Visitors are welcome. But I will say that AKL has some of the best restaurants on property (Boma, Jiko, Sanaa), and it's well worth giving one of them a try if you're going to be at AKL anyway.

Lynne,
Thanks for bringing me up to speed with AKL.
We are making plans to stay there Aug. 2010 and our family is very excited.
