Shades of Green ?

Do you have to be in the military to VISIT Shades of Green? Will they let you in the lobby? I am hoping to sprinkle some pixie dust when I visit in December by giving away a gift card or two- I figure I can walk up to someone and attempt to give them the card. I am sure they will think I am weird but I will try my best to assure them that my family is just trying to say thank you.
Is this even a good idea?

That is a very sweet gesture of you!

I know we stayed at Shades of Green several years ago (2005) and my grandparents, who were living in Orlando at the time, had no problem visiting us in our hotel room. Since then, however, they have started charging for parking...

One thing, not everyone staying at Shades of Green will be a service member or family member of a service member. I remember when we stayed there, EVERY other guest I spoke with (which I admit, was not a ton, maybe 2 or 3 a day?) was actually some other type of civilian DOD employee... I remember being so surprised because I was sure we'd probably see a lot of other military families there...

When are you going?? We will be there Nov 28th - Dec 5th.....if you would really like to see the place you could meet up with us somewhere and we can give you a grand tour....normally those of us military just tell them we have guests from other resorts visiting us and your name goes on the list at the front gate....now that being said, I know they dont really ck anyone walking over from the Poly...esp at night!! Just let me know if you would like to meet up if you are going to be there the same time we are!

if you do not have an ID card you probably will NOT be allowed in. although I suppose you could lie and tell them you are there for one of the golf courses but they may have a list of tee times at the gate.

Visiting a registered guest is one thing.. just walking up is most likely not an option right now.

you can try, but don't be surprised if it doesn't work.

There is noone at the door checking IDs. They have a lovely lobby with a great tree at Chritsmas time, too.

When stopped at the guard shack, just let them know you are day visitors.

We walked back and forth on that path numerous times during our stay last summer and were never stopped. The only thing that ever happened was once a bus driver had us pull out our room keys to "prove" we were guests because he said others had been taking advantage of the SoG bus system that day. I have no idea why, since the Disney transportation system is available to all guests.

visitors no matter what have to have their name on the list at the guard shack......and usually they ask who you are guests of...we normally have to give the front dest the names of our guests and then they put them on the list......

It's very nice that you want to honor military families. Instead of handing out gift cards at Shades of Green, maybe you could use those funds to donate to a military charity, like the USO, that provides calling cards and goodies to service members overseas who aren't able to be with their family members over the holidays. Personally, I'd be uncomfortable if somone offered our family a gift card and wouldn't accept it (albeit politely and with gratitude). My DH gets a little embarrassed when people thank him for his service if he's out and about in his uniform. Most military folks are pretty humble.

Thanks for your thoughtfulness.

Thanks to all

I plan on meeting my new friend Bellemeeko so I will be able to visit SoG with a registered guest and won't have to worry about guard shacks or being stopped. I appreciate all of your comments!
